My Harvest & Cure Thread + Boveda "Experiment" - PICS!!

Hey all,

So much great info here on RIU about harvesting and curing. And even good info on the Boveda pack "method".

I've decided to start up this thread for my first harvest. And as I said there is SO MUCH info that I thought I'd try a few different things for curing, and see how they work out for me.

I am GREATLY interested in everyone's input on curing with the Boveda packs, and will log my personal experience here for myself and anyone else interested. Thanks!!

I used the boveda 62 packs this round for curing. I just cut off the branches, let dry for a few days until the outside of the buds were a little crispy, then trimmed and jarred with one large boveda pack per jar. I checked two of the jars with hygrometers, and both jars are holding at 62 percent after a month.

I just got my Boveda 62's in the mail as well :) Cant wait to jar up my first grow! Very interested in this thread.

Hi all,

Happy holidays!

I have a quick question for those having used the 8 gram size in standard 1 quart canning jar.

How long does it take for the product to adjust humidity upon initially placing your semi-dried bud(assuming dry time is 4-5 days)?.

I have re-read instructions, and these are not doing anything. If they were mishandled by Amazon, they would be dried out...they are not.

WTF?. I could take pics all day here with humidity meters in jars...woke up to 72% after leaving pack in over 12 hours. So I opened jar, and used a different pack...and now it's at 65% and going up again.

Hmmm, the only info I have on that would be based of the hygrometer calibration bag.

It has a 75% pack in it, you put your hygrometers in it for 24-36 hours to calibrate them. I've had them in the bag for about 18 hours and it's only climbed to 70%ish so far.

The BP's can take a while to equalize the RH, plus every time the jar is opened it has to start all over. Make sure you have a tight seal, and as said, calibrate your meter. Good luck, they've worked extremely well for me going on 3 months now. Buds have definitely gotten more pungent and I really like the texture/moisture level they are kept at.

TY above, I'm going to call them tomorrow and ask a few questions that are unanswered in their video segments.

Meanwhile I had to go back to old school method, which I am dialed in on. Drying has been more of a challenge here b/c indoor RH drops dramatically during cold weather months. So I shortened drying time in hopes boveda packs would bring down 75% or so bud RH. he hygrometer is working fine, I tested the RH outdoors w/it and it was the same as current weather conditions...as I do not have a calibration tool here. I also have a jar of bud here sitting at 60%, so I'm gonna try this in reverse and see if it comes up.

So, I've had 4 of my mini meters in the calibration bag for more than 36hours and only one of them was reading above 70%.

So either they are all calibrated badly or the BP in the bag isn't getting it humid enough.

I'm thinkinng maybe packing 4 in at a time was too much so I've removed 3 of them and gonna see what it does now.

I did have a strain of some really dense buds that took two rounds of removing the Boveda pack from the jar and leaving the lid off for several hours. The rh in the jar was around 70 after a day, so off with the lids and out with the packs. Those trouble jars are now holding steady at 62 after a month and a half.

Update:

Been giving my girls fresh water for the last week.

Did not water yesterday or today. Keeping RH 35-40%

Chopping tomorrow morning. Drying at 70f 50% RH.

For curing I have...
10 1L Fido jars.
A case of 1 Qt mason jars.
20 Boveda 62 packs.
10 Boveda 69 packs.
10 calibrated mini hydrogrometers.

Def wanna cure all the premo bud as best I can. Prob try a few with 62packs and a few without.

Thinking about fresh freezing all the popcorn and sugar, but not sure how or what to do with it after. Bubble is so much fucking work, lol. ps. Can I fresh freeze in mason jars?

So,

Sad news first. I over dried my shit. It's very dry here. I let em hang in the closet ~4 days and they were pretty crunch and snappy so I trimmed and jarred a few tops. The RH quickly shot up to 80% so I removed them and put in a paper bag 24 hrs. That brought it to 65-70 range in the jar so I left the jar open for 4-6 hrs at a time. This ended up being about a jar full that is actually curing right now.

The rest of the crop I let hang a few more days but it got even colder outside and dryer inside. I tried to regulate humidity with my humidifier but it got all wonkey. Anyway, I checked on em last night, after about 6 days of hanging and they were super dry. I trimmed all of it and jarred it up, it was pretty damn dry and have only reached low 50s in the jars so far with two 8 gram Boveda 62s in each.

So that kinda sucks but hey, first grow, learning experience.

Right now weighing in at 10.9oz not including the popcorn. 1 of the popcorn jars is JAM FUCKING PACKED cuz I didn't want to get off the couch to grab another jar, lol. Same with the trim jar all the way to the right, all 6 plants worth of sugar trim are trying to bust out of that thing, lol.

Nice job man, looks like a good haul! I've been fresh freezing my trim sugar trim and popcorn and making qwiso out off it for the last year or so way less work the bubble.

Haha, for sure. And thanks.

I was thinking about making fresh frozen bubble instead but then I remembered what a pain in the ass it is, esp to get good stuff.

2 of the popcorn jars were only dried 1-2 days then frozen, just ran a qwiso on one of them w/o grinding it up, I kinda fucked up and got some plant in with the dish but w/e, gonna see how she turns out.

Great post man, I love you for it, lol ;) but seriously great vid and post!! I hope my curing and drying doesn't give me shit, lol I hope to just through in the Boveda and leave em like the guy said... man, that'd be awesome!

Most of the jars have stabilized at or near 62 at this point. I realized I'm only "adding" it back in and not really curing because of the over-dry, but have to assume keeping them at 62 is gonna be better than just in the glass when its 20-30% rh in my house all the time.
