10 month old 1000 w greenhouse ballest/light/air cooled hood and yesterday i noticed the light out,I unplugged it and re plugged it and it went on a few minutes later, but shut off again 5 minutes later.I have tightened the bulb, tightened the ballest cord connections, changed timers, changed outlets, and even tried plugging it in the wall with no timer, all the same,it goes out in about 5 minutes but the fan on the ballest is still running. Is the problem with my ballest or the bulb or even the hood??I'm trying to contact the seller to see if there is a warrenty or something or if they know what is wrong, all I do know is my girls are not getting light all 24 of them in week 3 of flowering.I can drive tommorrow to get what is needed ,but first i need to know what the problem is.Anyone encounter this, both my lights have never have problems so i have no experience in diagnosing it

The first thing would be to replace bulb.

I always keep my lamps as testers once they hit 9months old which is when i replace them. At 9months old a lamp needs replacing.

If you can, try to pick up a new ballast and explain at the shop that you may be returning it unused if its only your bulb. If they are anything like my hydro guys they'll just do a full refund if it was just your bulb .

ya baby, your the man jondamon! The veg bulb is working fine after 15 min and not shutting off.So the problem must be with the flower bulb, now I know.
I never knew a bulb could light for a bit then shut off ,i thought it either light up or didnt light up.Apparently at least with these bulbs they can.Its 5:18am here and ive been up all night with this problem,im gonna hit the hay happy to know I can go Tuesday to HTG and get a new bulb, probably free they offer 1 year guarantee on bulbs and i have the receipt,I'm just glad i can get it fixed fast and won't be ruining this garden. My 400 w bulbs both flower and veg are 1 3/4 years old and have been running steadly,I didn't know 9 months is the time you want to change them,I will pick up 2 new 400's when I go to get the new 1000.I'll have to wait a few months to get the other new 1000.

If it's not the bulb it is the ballast, either way it is under warranty. Bring your bulb and your ballast back to the shop you bought it from and have them test both. Whatever is broken they will either replace on the spot or have it sent out and you will be screwed for a week and then you can get a replacement.

The third option is to confirm what is broken in the shop, and bitch at the company over the phone until they overnight you a new product.

Edit: should have read the whole thread. My input is useless. Lol.

take the bulb to your nearest hydroponic shop/retailer/friend/relative ask him/her to try the bulb in another ballast, if it stays on your ballast is broken.
