My new MityVac Purge Kit (first time vac purging)

Howdy there fellas.

I had a few questions about my new purging set up. I just picked up the MityVac MV8000 Automotive Test and Bleed Kit. So, having just bought the vacuum, I hurried right over to another close store and got a vacuum-styled FoodSaver for pretty cheap. Here is the pump and the food saver vac chamber.

As it turns out, when I got home, the Foodsaver "nozzle" or whatever you want to call it, the place where you attach the vacuum pump tubing, the MityVac inserts just don't properly fit into the FoodSaver design. I mean, I can hold a steady 20 inHG, but only when strongly holding my hand on it with pressure, so it obviously wont fit. Lesson learned. BUT, I just now ordered this this fine looking desiccator right here http://www.amazon.com/Bel-Art-Scienceware-420200000-Polypropylene-Desiccator/dp/B002VBW9RS/ref=pd_sbs_indust_7 (hope it's okay to post an amazon link here) So once I get that baby I will be ready to purge some good stuff......I THINK...

I have a few questions. I was thinking about getting an electric vac pump as well, since i plan on making more of it, but I was wondering your guys' opinions on on hand pump VS electric. Is there REALLY a difference other than you don't have to pump it for just a minute?

My real question is....will an electronic vacuum actually put out better oil? Manual vac pump versus Electric vac pump - i'd love to hear opionions.

Thanks in advance!! I am actually a pretty old member, I just browse, I don't usually ever post.

Be well, friends <3

yo careful with that foodsaver. i think you'll be okay with a hand pump, but dont plug that into an electric pump. get a bel art scienceware vacuum desiccator and harborfreight 3cfm 2 stage pump lol (my set up).

WOW. That is all I have to say about the food saver. I have been using it as a paperweight for the last two days..literally, i have a stack of classwork it's holding down :dunce: That picture is some solid proof. I will be sure to save that since vac purging is JUST now getting popular, especially in Oregon. I don't want anyone to get hurt. But the thing is, the FoodSaver things don't even work well with the MightyVac hand pump. The FoodSavers can only get a solid seal with the foodsaver vacuum (unless you use glue or something for extra seal). So the foodsaver is useless to me anyways. Oh well, just 14.99 down the drain, no biggie.

Also it is so funny you said to get the Bel Art Desiccator vacuum chamber! I JUST ordered it yesterday afternoon. this one : http://www.amazon.com/Bel-Art-Scienceware-420200000-Polypropylene-Desiccator/dp/B002VBW9RS/ref=pd_sbs_indust_7 I think it will be an awesome set up. I got two day shipping so it is scheduled to be here tomorrow!

I will update with pics and info about how my new chamber works with my MightVac!

Thanks for that response Hatsofftoya, made my plans solid.

Not to hijack a thread, but is it necessary to purge BHO if you're not going to be smoking it and just using it for edibles?

No problem.

I am not going to make any 100% positive claims but I don't really think it is necessary at all to purge it for edibles. I think the cooking process will evaporate the butane out itself. I COULD be wrong, though. Someone please correct me if I am.

I highly doubt all the butane evaporates from the cooking process. Ive made the stuff all kinds of ways but i was doing it wrong! The chit needs to be vacuum purged to get as much tane out as possible. Even the brake bleeder will do a good job of purging. Good luck

BHOA winterized and decarboxylated at 250F is purged below sensory threshold, which is significantly lower than Permissable Exposure Limits.

It also doesn't produce a spike on the GC, so if present, it is insignificant enough to be lost in background noise.

Whats the highest you could get your little gauge to I could only get it to 26 and of heard people go up to 28 or 29 I pumped mine up for 5 times 20 minutes each time and got some great shatter, how maney times and for how long did you purge yours.
ill definently be upgrading to a electric pump soon that shits a workout hah.

I was thinking the same thing. Sacked up and asked my organic chemistry professor. He said butane boils so far below freezing there is no way it can remain long at room temp even inside the viscus blob of hash. I told him about vacuum purging/vacuum desiccation of hash, he said that the butane attracts lots of water from the atmosphere while expanding and that the vacuum procedure is probably to remove the water. Cool guy but there's no way he's gonna let me use the GC to test for left over butane.

its not a matter of addressing it, if your 2000 feet above sea level and think ur pump is fucked cuz you can only get t to -27, that 27 is the same as my 29 in texas

i didnt think it stayed around, i made brownies out of one of my first batches of bho and you could see lil bubbles come up from the butane

thats not exactly convincing. How do you know what the bubbles were? There are no bubbles when you make normal brownies?

Just out of curiosity, did you make ganja butter with the hash then use that to make the brownies? Thats how I do it.
