veggie, awesome grow man, hey would you mind running down your flower nutes/additives for me? just curious. thanks
I use pretty much what anybody uses. I avoid the pricey custom nutrient mixes like Advanced Nutrients. Very expensive. I don't mind spending money once a real benefit is visible, but none of those products have shown markedly superior results.

I use several combinations of NPK that allow me to achieve NPK ratios of 2-1-1 for veg, and about 1-4-3 for flowering.

Granular mixes include 21-0-0, 16-20-0, 0-10-10 and 16-16-16. A little math and a measuring cup get me where I want to be.

I also add volcanic ash, epsom salts, and Ironite 1-0-1 for a wide range of micronutrients.

I no longer add carbs. Instead, I mulch heavily and let the bacteria convert the mulch into carbohydrates. Adding sugars seems to cause a lot of problems. A few years ago, several growers and I tried a variety of molasses type preparations, and all of us either saw no improvement in yield, or saw a marked decrease. Until someone can show me a good side by side study, I'll avoid sugar.

Providing a nutritious environment for the plants is always the goal. A healthy plant produces heavily. Any time I disturb the mulch, I find earth worms. Always a good sign.

You've seen my stuff, I've read all the sugar talk, and decided to try it... now I see your post and wonder if it was/is the right thing. What kind of problems did you see? I did think about the issue of attracting unwanted beings.

I'm mulched to the hilt, it gets hot here and I figger insulation is a good thing.

You should check out the power trimmer I made from junk, it's in my 'trainwreck' tthread.

Thanks, have a nice day.

What we experienced was what appeared to be lock out issues. Watch for yellowing of the sun leaves, mimicking Magnesium or Nitrogen shortages. I think our problems stemmed from inexperience. We probably used excessive amounts, or applied the products at inappropriate times. IMO, more research needs to be done.

Hello VG-
Things are looking great, I'm using a few of your ideas in the garden, I need to update my journal so you can see the SCROG and the progress of the girls. I'm having a BUSY SUMMER, 2 long camping trips and 2 trips to Las Vegas, so my journal has been neglected.
Molasses.... I use about a cup when I make my tea's. The tea ends up making 32 gallons so about half a tablespoon per gallon. I only use to feed the microbeasties in the soil. The idea of adding sugars to SWEETEN the buds doesn't work. I agree with the Yellowing of the leaves, I tried a higher dose on one plant last year and she struggled. If used, use in moderation and I believe the plant benefits....IMO. I think to many people think if adding sugars it will sweeten the buds so they go way over board with the sugars.

Keep up the good work.....TMB

I figure your ideas are accurate.

I decided to stop trying to feed the bacteria sugars, directly, instead allowing them to make their own.

I use a bioenhancer (Cytozyme "Soil") that provides everything a bacteria needs except carbs. It kicks bacterial activity into high gear. In places, those things have completely eaten six inches of mulch, which amounts to a bunch of easily digestible carbs.

Wow...talk about sound advice!

I molasses-ed all the kids yesterday morning, with 1 tbsp per gallon, as generally recommended, and today, what do I have?? About double the yellowing leaves, so no more sugar fro my babies. They must be sour-pusses, just like papa. Not too worried about the yellowing, this too shall pass, as the wee beasties are otherwise booming.

Now what to do with all this molasses? Looks like a batch of BBQ sauce is in order! I'll get right on that.

Thanx again for all the knowlegable help!!

I've been nibbling on the grapes. They're ripening uneavenly, but they're awfully good when the munchies strike, in the garden!
