"the air stones are needed in the res's to keep plenty of oxygen in the water. it also helps keep the nutes stirred."

I've definitely gotta look into those, are they expensive?

"First off you should ask all your questions in your own thread."

I actually have my own thread where I met Bugsrnme... I just figured that I would make things easier on him to post my questions in his thread instead of my own. I plan on keeping up with his thread anyway cause our grows are so closely related. If you really think about it Lord Dangly Bits, Bugsrnme stated early on that he started this thread as an educational piece to help other growers better understand and learn. If anything, I feel like I'm contributing with questions in making this thread more informative. Not trying to take over another persons thread, just trying to learn. Please don't label me with "ignorance" that's not me at all.

"Now that being said, I use those plastic 55 gallon barrels with the lid still on it.. LOCKED in place."

That actually sounds ideal, I did some research and the only thing that I've found so far that compares to what you're talking about is these rain barrels I can get from the utility company. 75 bucks each and they hold about 65 gallons. They aren't black, but a dark green don't know what that would really matter though.

"Do you talk like you type? DO you smoke weed or crack? LOL "

Hahaha last night was crazy! I'm a literature major so usually my posts are a lot more formatted. Last night was just a blur of frustration and lack of sleep. I'll work on my run-on's and scattered questions next time I promise!

"ABF states if you can drink it you can grow in it."

Haha I like that saying... It seems like it would be rather true, I mean we are growing "WEEDS" and those fuckers can be resilient to a lot of shit. :) The plants in the reservoir that I used right out of the faucet are doing really good. I was thinking though... I mean yea it may not be best for your plants to use water that hasn't sat out, but in all reality how long do most people recommend you let your water sit out for? Most responses I've gotten have always been around 24 hours. So that makes me think what the hell? So what if I fill my reservoirs with water straight from the tap? In 24 hours the chlorine will have evaporated anyway right? I think I'm going to just try this... I'll work some sort of water hose connection up to my bathtub faucet and just run a line to my tubs. I do need to invest in a PPM reader... I think that's what I'll be doing tomorrow after work (more money into the pit... ***Cough, cough, I mean investment) Thank you for all your help Sparkafire! :)

That sucks that those got bit damaged.

Do you still have plant matter left to reveg then start it up again?
Do you know what stains mades this PurpleWidow? I have seen this as well as BlackWidow and Bluewidow?

Yea man just finished your thread and... damn. That's all I got haha... A friend of mine showed me that quote back when I first started growing and I've lived by it since. Just a bump in the road, continue to be optimistic my friend and you will be alright! Run of bad luck... You'll be in the clear before you know it. You're thread has really been an inspiration to me to get my own ass in gear. Thanks for the help!
down right inspirational...seriously! thank you for that, i love old quotes...
here's my favorite, see if you can guess (not google:-P)
Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experiences of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired and success achieved.

great setup dude , i'm jealous. your giving me ideas to upgrade. i enjoy reading your journal , love it man keep it up . :leaf:
thank you, upgrade away...i plan to also. i'll keep posting if yall keep reading

YOU PLANT MURDERER!!!!!!! SOMEONE GET A ROPE. :fire:
i love you....seriously

i need a separate room to keep a mother plant like bugs set up.
you could just make a tent space in the room you have....maybe. they only need a tiny space...i have 6 in a 2x4x6 foot space...need that vert, them bitches grow fast!!!

what exactly happened to the plants getting F'd up? you burnt them how?
i left for a few days and the water level dropped and increased the ppm and presto...burnt plants:wall:

first off thank you spark and ldb....i do appreciate you guys pitchin in in my absence. ldb keepin em straight with right crosses and left jabs:bigjoint:

So I just got done dealing with one hell of a fiasco. I guess the grow gods decided that I needed a little demise of my own to deal with. So today was the day I am supposed to change my reservoirs. Each reservoir holds 40 gallons of water. I let my water sit out for 24 hours in two 80 gallon heavy duty trashcans to evaporate all the chlorine out.
no need to evap the chlorine....it acts as a pathogen control. but like ldb said ...all water is not created equal.

I was nervous about the trashcans because they really stretched a lot, but they seemed to hold so I "like a dumb ass" ignored it. Being the day that my girls got fresh water, I emptied my reservoir. My trashcans have wheels so they seemed like something that would be easily mobile if I was careful. So again, "like a dumbass" I wheeled my trashcan toward my reservoir and got to almost the center of the room and the bottom of the 80 gallon trashcan sprung a mad leak. Not a little leak, a giant leak that was vastly growing by the second. I pushed with everything I had to get that thing to the bath tub, but only managed to save about 20 gallons... So there I sat in utter disbelief soaking wet planning my trip to wal-mart for a shop vac and a bunch of towels. (keep in mind my grow room is carpet) 3 Hours later I'm back to my old 20 gallon reservoirs. Replaced one of them with the water I managed to save, but the other I had to use water that was straight out of the faucet... hope I'll get away easy without the chlorine hurting my plants, but I cant let them go without water. I ran the pump right before I changed my reservoir, so I'll be good for about another 6 hours then I'll flood again... Ok I'm starting to ramble, I'm stoned.

ya but that shit is funny...mines carpet also

Ok so because of this experience I have a few questions for you. I noticed you said well I can't remember I think you said you had 20 - 25 gallon reservoirs for your trays. I'm using 4x4 trays with each of my reservoirs. If I switch to 20 gallon reservoirs all around will my 30+ plants per reservoir be adiquate enough feeding and watering for my plants over a weeks time until I change it out again.

no, like i think i read from ldb...40 gallons the ticket for you....you want to be able to fill to the overflow in about 4 minutes or so.

I need to invest in a PPM reader so I can top up halfway through the week, but I've never done that before so I'm nervous about fucking something up. I've always just replaced my reservoir every week with fresh nutes.

dont misunderstand me please....i only "top up" with fresh water...never nutes.

Past experiences have led me to notice that the more plants I have the faster my water diminishes and sometimes ran dry. I really need to learn how to top up.

every 2-3 days, as needed to keep your tanks full, then treat with h2o2 and correct ph to 5.8......class dismissed. jk

You don't change yours out but every two weeks?

yup

Is that what those air stones help with? Do they keep your water fresher?

the air stones are to oxygenate the nute sloution so that when i flood the tray, it's getting freshly oxygenated nutes....roots love it!!!

How often do you have to add more water/nutes?

water every 2-3 days, nutes every 2 weeks with res change after cleaning!

Ok and I didn't want to forget to ask you what the hell do you use to hold you're water while you let it sit out?

i have 55 gallon plastic drums but i dont let mine sit out at all.

My trashcans are pretty much shit and I'm out of ideas. I was using my bathtub, but it doesn't hold nearly enough water for 4 reservoirs. Anyway, looking forward to hearing back. Take care and good luck with your endeavors bro!
drums are the way to go if you need to treat your wter or let it sit.

most people I've read about change their nutes every 2 weeks. that's usually what I do, but I'm at about 3 weeks now. past due, but the plants are still doing well. at about this time, I always get some kind of white bubbly foam around the inside of the res. I'll take care of it tonight. the air stones are needed in the res's to keep plenty of oxygen in the water. it also helps keep the nutes stirred.
i let mine go for 3 weeks+ and i wont do it again....messed em up...filthy. but i'm lazy:bigjoint:

Do you talk like you type? DO you smoke weed or crack? LOL

BUgs hope you dont mind.

Sorry to hear about your trials and tribulations in your grow. It made me laugh thinking about the site of you realizing you were Moses and the great ark was not built yet. LOL . :wall: Dont forget this is a learning experience and all we have to do is not make the same mistakes twice.

If it makes you feel any better the hose i had attached to my water heater to get water into my room came off the fitting flooding my whole garage with 3 inches of water!!!!. Lesson make sure the fittings are tight!!!:wall:

I am sorry to have to tell you this but all that you just went though was pointless because you could have just filed your tanks with regular tap water and would be just fine. There is no need to filter, use RO let water sit or anything like it. I have used tap for almost 8 weeks now and never had a problem. If you dont believe me look at Al.B FUcts grow. I need not say more. :weed:

Yes you need a PPM meter but if your plants are growing and you change out your tanks every 2 weeks you can add plain water to top off with checking your PH and you should be just fine until your next change out.

I am running 20 gal tanks and have no problems. If your running dry and your tubs are not filling all the way then yea you need bigger tanks. If you can top off during the week no worries.

Ok Moses thats should help a little bit for now.
thanks for the help spark...i see ldb scolded you a lil bit,,,lol
he's a good guy, very very knowledgable

i'm stiking to foxfarm soills. i'm convinced, lol.too messy for me . and igot some hoglegs growing in soil, i'm ok with it . :leaf:
then why are you playin in the hydro journal? jk....welcome

i keep mothers in a constant state of veg so i never run out of clones/replacements. i am having trouble nailing it down on the genetics....waiting to hear from some folks.

soooo, i'm on day 11 and still nothing in the fuckin cloner.....no roots, nubs, nothing...perfectly healthy clones just no roots. i have got to figure this shit out.

I have to do this!!! I kill clones, over and over and over. crap!
Do you use a cloner or a Clone Dome? Do you mist your clones a lot? Or just keep the rapid rooter of rock wool cubes moist? I have found that if you mist your plants to much, they do not need to grow roots to get water.

so....update....it';s day 12 and i got a root on 1 of my 30 clones in the cloner.

not wow....but better than 17-20 days. we'll see how the rest come and how they develope

12 days 1 root?.. That seems like a long time for the results. so this cloner?... just water with air bubbles splashing on the cutting?....

Good luck

no it uses red head misters to spray the inside of the tub upwards towards the lid...kinda showering the hanging stems. the air stone is in the tub just a bubblin':peace:

well damn man that sounds like a good setup... why so long and so little success??...

Are you just trying to avoid the costs of the rooting hormones? Like gels, powders and liquids?

I have heard of strains that take up to 3 weeks to root. Also I took 15 cuttings. 9 rooted within 7 days. 6 more within 14 days. and 1 just popped a root today which is 23 days. The lastone still has not popped but it looks very healthy.

I use a clone dome and I was told I pay too much attention to them. One set, I have 5, yes 5, out of 22 still alive. The other set, 9 out of 11.

do you know what you're doing wrong? mist them once a day with clean filtered water. h2o2 in the mist water is ok, but I've had trouble misting with straight tap water, burned the leaves a little. they should stay alive pretty easily.

just for kicks, I tried putting a single leaf in a bubble system with powdered root hormone. I kept it alive for probably 3 or 4 weeks, but never got any roots, so I killed the test. so far, I've gotten 0 out of 1 clones to grow roots. not a good record!

sorry for the delay...i was away for a couple of days

i have olivias cloning gel and have used it. as for the time...??? it's killing me. i would give half of my first batch of 7 colas to the man/woman that figures this out for me. it is fuckin up my 2 week schedule big time. i cant get hold of someone with the same situation as me ....and that has the answers.

I have heard of strains that take up to 3 weeks to root. Also I took 15 cuttings. 9 rooted within 7 days. 6 more within 14 days. and 1 just popped a root today which is 23 days. The lastone still has not popped but it looks very healthy.
well i take 30 at a time and i only have 3 roots now on day 16....and last time it took 21 days to get less than stellar root....not root developement, just a little root on each one that rooted. and all of them are healthy looking

pay no attention to the glowing yellow leaf...the ones in the tray are the ones that survived the nute burn even when over half the big ones died

i used a clone dome with rapid rooters in the beginning, then tried rw cubes albfuct style, failed then went the aerocloning route.

misting from the top slows it down even worse....so i dont do it.....if they're getting water from the top then the plant doesnt try as hard to find water...hence longer rooting times. all mine are very healthy, just slow roooters for a reason that wich is yet to be determined

just sad huh?

Update? I wanna know how things are going.
things are good buds are beautiful, just having trouble with the roots
the mums as you can see grow perfectly....just cant kill em'
the mother chamber is and has been perfect.

good thread. keep up the pics
thank you, i will:weed:

Yeah more pics is what is needed. Good job..
ask and ye shall recieve!!!

some bud shots we've all been waiting for.
all 7 are doing great....fattening up. only about 3 weeks to go!!

i just need to sort out this cloner buisness then all will be right in the universe.:leaf:
