that was lucky mate, the little green hairs that you see are on every plant im not sure what you call them but they dont have anything to do with flowering. what you are looking for starts growing next to them. you will see a little growth which can either be new branches, female or male flowers. females have 2 little wite hairs coming from it, males just look like balls. it will take a few days from when you see them til you will be able to know for definate what it is.
"the root base if left unrestricted would get quite large if its grown directly in the ground".
i didnt mean that you should plant them in the ground mate, just that the bigger the pot the more root mass you will have, in turn your plants should be healthier and stronger.
