DO you mean I should lower my 600watt MH lights, right now they hang at about 18 inches above the plants, too high ?

With a cooltube as you have, you can easily have the HID closer than 18 inches. Try about 8 - 12inches and see how they respond! Room looking very neat.

Agreed but best rule of thumb is to use the hand method hold your hand at top of plants and imagine it there for hours I had my 600 way too close bleached my plant a little but moved it up good 6-8 inch's I would say they can penetrate good. I don't have a cool tube ( just putting that out there ) but the Distance between plant tops and light is about that, I placed my hand just over the plants and the heat was totally bearable, no risk of burning and yet plenty warm to be sure.

What impresses me is how big the leaves have already grown ( the third set of real leaves are developing ( 8 days ). Some of the stalks seem a little short compared to others but they don't look bad so probably just genetics, etc,.

Will be picking up the 3 clones this thursday and I will place them in with these though I will have to compensate for their height somehow. Wondering which strains I should later make clones from ( Headband, White RhinoxOG Kush, Purple Kush and Master Kush ) ?

Should I choose one that is a big producer ?

I will, well except for the bag seed plants ( still need to see if they are males or females ) and mainly because I will have so many clearly identified strains to work with.

if you can get more clones down the line, I'd hold off on making your own right now. First it will interrupt their growth, and second, it's another skill to learn on your first grow. Try it later, after you've successfully grown these plants through to harvest. Focus on the basics.keep the varieties you enjoy. i.e. if you hate headband, don't grow it again. you could keep four different varieties for your different tastes/moods.it sounds like you have the light at a good distance. i just meant that seedlings are light hogs. clones need to be acclimated over 2 or 3 days.please update with pics :) things are happening fast at this point. If you flip them now they could develop six side branches. you definitely don't want the unknown genetics to take over your grow space. i once had a 12" seedling top 6' by the time it was done o_O darned mexican sativa :) peace

Hearing you Crysmatic, too late for the clones I already agreed to purchase ( picking them up in 2 days ) so I'll have to deal with the difference in growth stage between them and my babies and I'm thinking of having the clones sit on something lower so that all plant tops are about even and not hogging the light too much. Was looking in on the babies just before bed last night and wow, leaves are starting to multiply pretty good, there's 4 larger leaves already plus these small ones coming up on the sides of the larger ones, like fingers, very impressive and so different from last spring with my outdoor growth, they just look different ( could be the light and set up, lol ).
I'll probably take pics today if possible but certainly by friday with the new clones thrown in.
:peace:

Ok, so I couldn't wait and here are a few pics I just took. Temperature in grow space is 35% C. and relative humidity is around 29%, I realize the the temp is a little high and that the humidity is on the low side. I have a humidifier going plus a rotating fan and a small container of water in the space .. any suggestions as to how I can raise the humidity and maybe lower the temp a few degrees ?

**what is the temperature at the plant tops?** you definitely want temperatures in the low to mid 20s. get a 100 cfm (or so) fan at the ceiling blowing out hot air, and let in cool air. if you're exhausting to the basement, the large volume will help dissipate the hot air...however, you need to humidify your house. around 50% is a good relative humidity...good for your lungs too! get a *large* container of water, and stick an aquarium air pump and stone in it :) a cool mist humidifier works well.

have you heard about making your own clones? aka cuttings. you basically cut off a branch, stick it in a pot, and in a week it grows roots. buying clones is a good thing.

Having an issues this morning with the light, it hasn't yet come on though the inline exhaust fan and carbon filter have ( they are all plugged in to the same thing a ma jig ). It flickered a few times but failed to light up, will go back and check in to see if it has. Would be a shame, I just bought the whole 600watt light system through Amazon.com and this would mean having to deal with the vendor and likely send back a non functioning on and waiting for a replacement and I would lose my fledgling crop.

I know it's not the ballast, I tried with the HPS light and it works well, so must be the MH bulb, damn, only had it about 10 days.

Am told that I can just replace the MH with the HPS one and that my plants will still love it so am going for that. :)

It's been about 11 days of growing for my babies ( started off as seedlings ), now I'm just wondering if I should start thinking about transplanting them into larger pots or if it's a little early yet ?
