My very first plant ever.

I fed Potty a couple splashes of coffee ground water and all the light green disappeared and the purple that was creeping up the stem is starting to fade.

Potty is now 8.5 inches tall, and is telling me I have to add more light. There's 3 true leaf nodes and i'm thinking of topping (after I get more lights and a bigger pot)

When ou said I should bury some of the stem did you mean bury it up past the original two round leaves (their dead anyways) or past the first two serrated leaves or past the first set of true leaves(the ones with multiple leaflets)

I got tired of waiting for the pictures to arrive so I dug out my old digicam and took these.

I also thought that since I didn't have enough lighting that I should build a lighting rig but didn't know how.

So I hunted for a rough idea on the internet and designed this; (this was my draft copy, my final product only has 7 fistures and it will run in two parts, one for 6500+ teperature bulbs and one 2700+ temp range) I will have a fixture splitter on each socket and a mat white cardboard halfpipe acting as a reflector. A exhaust fan pushing hot air through a dryer hose will be installed in the cardboard and vented into the space between my susspended ceiling and the upsatirs floor saving on heating costs in the winter (by raising the electric bill a bit, still it will cost less than heating oil)

I'm hoping to find a box fan for cheap as my intake, the fan I have doest push enough air as I think i'll need soon.

The hell with a pot plant, I want to raise a pot bush!

Now keep in mind that I don't build what I design (except for work) but I get pretty close.

I scavenged everything you see in these pictures of the almost finished product.

couple things ...miricle grow = no miricle...in fact its gonna kill them or give you crap smoke. heres why...miricle grow uses time release agents...this means your plant will get thing it dont need at certin times...like flowering....it no longer needs nitrogen but miricle grow still releses it so after they are cured they will crackle and taste like shit no matter how much you fush them cause afer the flush guess what...miricle grow releases more of what your trying to purge.
I would also be willing to bet its causeing your plant to curl up like that and heres why...its a seedling...seedlings come pre packed with what the need from mom in the casing to give them life for the first three weeks...nothing and i mean nothing should be used but plain water for those 3 weeks...when you see the single leaf after the water leaves starting to look like they are starting to yellow, that means they now are eating the nitro from that leavel to sustain the top and you should then start adding some nutes....mild at first till you have good growth. up the dose per week till your mix is 3/4 of what they tell you on the lable is full strenth. you can go full strength but my exp is to close and you get burn.

almost forgot....get a hot shots no pest strip and hang it close to your plant...belive me ...nothing will come close to it.

View attachment 1024637View attachment 1024636View attachment 1024635View attachment 1024634Hello, I'm Kaleb and this is my first child.

I decided to use CFLs because I had no other option (broke as hell and already had the lights) so these are the specs...

2-100w CFLs (1)26w cool white (no box to list the spectrum temp) (1) 23w soft white (2700k)

the child is inside a tinfoiled aquarium, has a fan blowing on it to strengther the stem and remove heat.

The top of the plant is roughly 3-4 inches from the lights and has survived aphids and earwigs and now has tiny pin holes appearing in the older leaves.

I have gone over the plant with a x10 magnifying glass and I can't find so much as a mite on it.

I'm using half strength all purpose miracle grow (24-8-16) with micronutrients.

I don't know what to do, this is a first for me and i'm doing what I can to save this plant after the bug trauma(earwigs are fucking nasty)

The new growth at the crown is comming in twisted, I have no idea if that's normal or not, a friend had spotted the original bug problem (aphids) by the turning leaves when I had this outside on the deck so I brought it in to heal. that's when the earwig decided he wanted a salad.

so here's my set up, some pictures of the child and the lighting set up if you can call it that.

just noticed the leaves seem kind of papery too and a bit crusty.

So i'm doing something wrong but have no idea what.

Please help

Well HEY HEY CHICO!! I adore your contraption of a creation. It looks a little hazardous, but it should work. I agree with what was said with the miracle grow. It will most likely kill your plant. I would flush Potty out with distilled water ( you can get at local grocery for like 2$ a gallon) and try to get some better fertilizers if possible. Something like Fox Farms is a great product to go with.

She looks much better, and I am sure she is just shootin with new growth. Keep me posted brotha! Bongs to You!! FIRE IN DA HOLE!

transplanted today into a bigger pot, I should have waited for another few weeks. she's recovering now and was burried up to her first serrated leaves. I took down the contraption and i'm waiting till I can get more CFLs and i'll finish the light rig then.

Very good brotha! The more lighting the better your results will be :) Big pot gives way to big plants :) Sit back, and enjoy some growth. Bongs to you, again!!

I just got a second timer, it's an old analog mastercraft and only hs a single "start" pin, so I have it set to turn on at 6Am and I shut it down at midnight equalling 18h on and 6 off. I checked it and it works great

o miracle grow is crap, I get that. since my plant is stil in vegetative phase and I plan on growing it for quite awhile longer is it ok to use the M.G. at half or less strength another time (next week) just to give it a transplant finalization boost before I switch to just water

Wow, she is certianly looking alot better. If you know enough to properly "top" the plant, I would do it know. Also, you are seriously just better off on not using miracle grow nutes, IMO. Mainly because of the fact that they are "time release" nutz. You dont want nutz getting used and such at the wrong time of the plants life. In the end, you would be self defeating yourself, and battling the very fertilizer you feed it.

Glad to hear you got a timer on her. I think at this point, its just a waiting game. If you do wish to top the plant, expect growth to slow down for 3-5 days until she can recover from the stun. If you dont know much on topping just do some research. If you have any questions after that, just send me a PM, I will be glad to help clarify. You cant go wrong with topping. Especially if you want more than one main cola :)

Peace, Love and Happiness

I'm contemplating Surgery vs Amputation (verticle vs horizontal cutting) both will give me the results I want can I get opinions on personal choices?

Horizontal is the way to go brotha! However, i am completely fried, pie eyed, and partially looking asian...so i could be wrong....hell I am not even sure if I comprehend what I am saying at this point, but it sounds good.... :) BONGS TO YOU!!!
