my wifes cloning technique...

Hey everyone, pretty toasted right now, so bare with me on this one...my wife and I were talking earlier, and I was telling her how I was trying my hand at cloning finally, I explained the details of what I did, and (much to my surprise) she told me of another technique, that sounds pretty odd, but odd enought that to me, it sounds like it just may work. She never did it on pot, only on other plants, but I want to try it, here it is:

She explained, you take an offshoot, close to the main stem about an inch or so away, and cut the offshoot, not completely mind you, just wound it.

Than take some saran wrap and place some dirt in it and wrap it around the wound and tie it up with a twist tie, like a bandaid.

She claims that the plant sends a hormone there to repair itself and will sense the soil and start to grow roots there, afterwards simply cut it completely off and plant it.

Does this make sense, any credibility to it?

i have a pot book somewhere that explains this technique. i couldn't understand why you would do it this way. it seems easier to just cut off the branch. i think it will work though.

Thats alot of work for somethiung you can do pretty simple the regular way and I would assume puting dirt into amain up plant wound would increase chances of bacterial infection itno the main plant.Just my thinking of it.

think about it guys, this method would increase anyones chances.. if it's only half broken, it will still be fed by the plant.. maybe faster/healthier rooting...
personally i probobly wouldnt do it but it's very plauseable

It might also just heal its self. -shrug- try it and find out

It is called air-layering.

This happens a lot in nature. Its the way grapevines spread.

it has similarity with a odd technique i found in a old gardening book, they also cut half-ways into the branch but than put a rap of soil around it with tine foil... but i never tried it. but sounds good

Yes, and the advantage is that it alows you to root a larger section of stem without specialized misting benches/humidity chambers.

Well based on that, it defenitely has its merits.

"How to Grow Marijuan Indoors Under Lights" copyright 1975, page 71-73 explains this technique. Of course the book is a bit outdated, The Fluorescent era. I collect growing manuals.

Yes i have seen this done and another technique very similar to it posted somewhere on these boards. It was a video of someone cloning it before even cutting off the plant completely.

I'm thinkin this will be worth a shot for me...and heres why; i'm only able to grow 24 plants (25 or more and its 3yrs in prison mandatory Florida sucks!!!!!) anyways if i try this and it works i could clone this way and keep more other plants i.e. 22 flowering plants and 2 moms w/ 2-3 clones on them each oposed to 18 flowering plants, 1 mom, and 4-6 clones. perpetual grow/harvest 2-3 plants each week. Any thoughts

hmmm interesting, thanks for sharing I wasn't aware of this technique - Im gonna try it - it doesn't sound like THAT much 'trouble'.. just wrap the cut with saran wrap and a bit of soil .. nice

i have heard of this before.
everyone says it sounds like a lot of work, but you dont have to have a seperate area, you dont have to mist, so that alone cuts down on some of the WORK aspect by saving you time in the long run..
i am going to try this due to the fact that i have a strain i love that is a complete pain in the ass to clone..
so if any one has a link or better instructions i would be willing to do a journal to validate this cloning option...

i just did something similar using a rapid rooter plug..
ok i just did 4 branches 3 using rapid rooter plugs.. slit the stem bout an inch long and just to the middle of the stem slid the sliver into a piece of rapid rooter plug with a bit of olivias and wrapped with renolds wrap press and seal.
the other the same way only using soil..
i will say that this was a bit awkward and similar to....well work.., but i think that if it works... with practice it would be quick and painless....
we will see in a couple o weeks..

With this method i'll bet a hundred percent success
