My worst mistake starting out was....

The human condition facilitates delusions. Inevitably, as we gain experience and confidence in an area, we tend to grow egotistical and complacent regarding our approaches. It is only after we are reminded of our fallible nature (usually through a costly blunder), do we recognize how pompous we have become.

I thought this would be a good thread for both beginners, as well as seasoned growers, to share their worst mistakes, so as to remind themselves of their beginnings, as well as ward off blunders from those new to the art.

Great Thread +rep , I have so many but if I had to name 1 I would say MY WORST MISTAKE was growing Multiple strains in one tote(2 trainwreck 3 Himalayan gold in 15 gal res.) Not a good idea.

Happy Growing!

Mine was going away for a weekend and thinking my bullet proof timer system would be fine while I was gone, needless to say, it wasn't as bullet proof as I thought.

Mine was in not realizing the difference in the wattage of flouro/cfl bulbs and their listed equivalent wattages. Got a 100W equivalent and thought it would be good for one plant, and hell the damn thing was actually like 17W.

Having my set up so my lights fell on my plants twice, I've since corrected the situation. I also got impatient with a seedling once waiting for it to sprout and whan it didn't I planted another seed in the same pot. Needless to say they both came up.

My worst mistake was buying a 600 watt hps off eBay in order to save a few bucks. The cheap pos overheated by the second day, completely melted the cord, and was destroyed. The plants went without light for 5 days cuz I tried to save 50 bucks.

using "rain water" from a rain barrel.........that had once 30% sodium hydroxide in it. didn't use a ph meter, out of self-assuredness.

 I'm looking at ordering my T5 fixtures from ebay, do you think 600 reports with 98% positive is safe? Now I'm nervous again.

Was carless to my first baby, she was oh so tiny at the time i thought i would get a close up look at her roots (she only just got her cotlyedons) . and before i knew it she was face down on the ground ass up... Yep i dropped my seedling about 6 ft drop straight onto the stem, she survived and grew into a monstrous of a plant though.

Oh the same plant also recieved a hefty surprise when my panel of 6 cfl's fell straight onto her head given her a nice blow to the head, luckily no permenant damage, nd i ended up rippen that head off anyway so she coud grow 2 more ;)

going through one now... dropped the seed in the rockwool but not rockwool looking sponge holder and i think some of the root is exposed to the light

My biggest mistake was thinking fancy nutes and supplements were more important than first-rate ventilation and lighting.

Mine was not taking environmental factors into account prior to setting up my room. Bought and paid for everything without figuring out what I really needed, just buying shit cause it looked cool. On the positive side I have a ton of extra equipment for expansion but at the time I could have used the money elsewhere. Also too many strains at once, if I had it to do over I would go with a max of 3 strains, with a ton of different genetics at once you never really end up learning the best way to grow a specific strain and stuff gets lost in the shuffle.

Also last night I dropped a table on my Blueberry Trainwreck that is 30+ days into flower, always be wary of what is above your plants and your grip on those specific items.
