TESTING CANNABIS ON DOGS

Through the courtesy of Messrs. Parke. Davis and Co., manufacturing chemists of London and Detroit. Michigan, U.S.A., we are enabled to reproduce a clear pharmacological study of the drug by E. M. Houghton, Ph.C., M.D.; and H. C. Hamilton. M.S (Excerpt from an article in the "American Journal of Pharmacy" for January 1908.) From several samples of Cannabis Americana fluid, extracts and solid extracts were prepared according to the U.S.P., and were tested upon animals for physiological activity.
The method of assay, which has previously been called to the attention of this Society, is that which one of us (Houghton) devised and has employed for the past twelve years. This method consists essentially in the careful observation of the physiological effects produced upon dogs from the internal administration of the preparation of the drug under test.
In applying the test, the standard dose (0.01 gram per kilo weight) (in form of solid extract for convenience) is administered internally in a small capsule. The dog's tongue is drawn forward between the teeth with the left hand and the capsule placed on the back part of the tongue with the right hand. The tongue is then quickly released and the capsule is swallowed with ease. In order that the drug may be rapidly absorbed, food should be withheld for twenty-four hours before the test and an efficient cathartic given if needed.
Within a comparatively short time the dog begins to show the characteristic action of the drug. There are three typical effects to be noticed from active extracts on susceptible animals: first a stage excitability, then a stage of inco-ordination, followed by a period of drowsiness.. The first of these is so dependent on the characteristics of the dog used that it's of little value for judging the activity of the drug, while with only a few exceptions the second, or the stage of inco-ordination, invariably follows in one or two hours; the dog loses control of its legs and of the muscles supporting its head, so that when nothing occurs to attract its attention its head will droop, its body sway, and, when severely affected, the animal will stagger and fall, the intoxication being peculiarly suggestive and striking.
When an active extract is given to a susceptible animal, in the smallest dose that will produce any perceptible effect, one must watch closely for the slightest trace of incoordination, lack of attention. or drowsiness. It is particularly necessary for the animals to be confined in a room there nothing will excite them, since when their attention is drawn to anything of interest the typical effect of the drug may disappear.
Previous to the adoption of the physiological test over twelve years ago, we were often annoyed by complaints of physicians that certain lots of drugs were inert; in fact some hospitals, before accepting their supplies of hemp preparations, asked for samples in order to make rough tests upon their patients before ordering. Since the adoption of the test we have not had a well-authenticated report of inactivity, although many tons of the various preparations of Cannabis Indica have been tested and supplied for medicinal purposes.
At the beginning of our observations careful search of the literature on the subject was made to determine the toxicity of the hemp. Not a single case of fatal poisoning have we been able to find reported, although often alarming symptoms may occur.
A dog weighting 25 pounds received an injection of two ounces of an active U.S.P. fluid extract in the jugular vein with the expectation that it would certainly be sufficient to produce death. To our surprise the animal, after being unconscious for about a day and a half, recovered completely. This dog received. not alone the active constituents of the drug, but also the amount of alcohol contained in the fluid extract. Another dog received about 7 grams of Solid Extract Cannabis with the same result. We have never been able to give an animal a sufficient quantity of a U.S.P. or other preparation of the Cannabis (Indica Arnericana) to produce death.

Now you believe what the vet says........not my money like I said..

I have to dissagree about the hot boxed car. I was on a road trip with a non-smoker 1 time and they had more than just a litte contact buzz from the smoke, we had to pull over at a rest stop she was so stoned. the funny part was the next day when she wouldn't sit next to me because I was drinking a beer ( not in the car of course :) She thought she was ganna get a buzz from that too! ahhh...good times. The good news is she is now a regular everyday smoker and we still still tease her about it , it never gets old. cool thread :peace:

Way to go, you found something that says they couldn't kill the dog but "the dog loses control of its legs and of the muscles supporting its head." My dog got sick and was shitting and puking and couldnt stand or walk... If you don't consider that harming your dog then you probably shouldn't own or breed dogs Michael Vick.

I'm saying that a dog can get sick from eating weed, and to me letting your dog eat something that could make it sick is just retarded but whatever bro, keep leaving your weed out for your dogs to eat... its your money!

I'm sorry, but I'm totally done having this debate so consider me the loser and yourself the winner for all I care... I was just trying to prevent someones pet from getting sick Mr. Vick

Hell yeah, bump the myth thread.
I smoke with my dog, he enjoys it. Jumps in my lap sometimes. Other times just starts diggin in the yard.
IDK bout them dying from eating straight buds though. Maybe a lil sick, but who doesn't get sick from a huge dose of bud?
I know the hotbox/contact buzz is definitely not a myth, proved it many times.
I've grown with miracle grow, so I know it killing your plants is a myth.

Hmmm, what's a good myth.
Oh, how about the gas that natural ripe fruits give off? Ethylene.
Some throw ripe fruit in their grow area to feed their plants this gas for "quicker ripening of buds"
Anybody ever do this? I don't think this will work being that buds are not fruit and 'ripen' by growing
while still attached to the plant. On the other hand, fruits ripen after they have been picked.

Hello.... Been a while - but i have a new untried myth!!!

My Gran-in-law has an amazing country cottage - you know the sort that have open days so people can go and relish in the fantastic looking garden with teas and scones... Some of her flowers and plants are beautiful and i ask about having some cuttings... "do i need some rooting stuff i said" - she chuckled and said, "dont waste your money - there iss actually more natural active hormones in human spit than rooting gels/powders - i get my cutting popped it in my mouth, get spit on there and then straight in pot" !!!!

Has any one tried this? - gonna see if it works in a couple of weeks!!!

Oh yeah I forgot this is Mythbusters

OK I never really believed this one because its highly unlikely

Can you get your dog high? I mean I have never heard a confirmed result, Would there even be any THC in the smoke to get him high after it was already in your lung? You can't even get high in a hot boxed car so I think that you cannot. But when I try and tell people that they are just really high and think there animals are high, they tell me im bullshitting and they know it works because they have wittnessed it.
it does happen...i get my dog high all the time..he likes it:) i blow him shotguns from my blunts:) it can also happen by just blowing the smoke in the dogs NOSE or EARS

dude you don't have to use a flushing product.

the buds will taste/smell how they're suppose to smell.. naturally. from its genetics.. that's why each strain is different.. and its also why most different strains, smell and taste differently from other strains. Genetics my friend.

secondly, just trying to help.. just use plain water when it comes to to start flushing out your soil. That's the best thing to use.

good luck either way..

peace.

Clearly you know more than science. Keep saving the world on stupid post at a time.

It is true that plants benefit from music through the vibrations that music and even natures sounds and vibrations work just as well or better. The world record for the largest plant ever grown was grown by a man that dedicated over to 20 years to researching how sound/music effects plant growth. The record holding plant was grown using his audio of percise frequencies along with foliar applications of nutrient formula that he created... He sells the Audio CD's and the Foliar Formula... It's called "The Original Sonic Bloom" and lots of farmers all over the world are said to use it. You can order it online and there is a lot of research info on the sonic bloom website if you spend the time to navigate around a bit.

The key is using a foliar along with the music and using the right music/vibrations, because if the frequencies aren't right, or you play the music too much/too often then there will be negative effects on the plants health. Bass, drums, and notes that arent pure should be avoided...

I have a thread with a lot more info about how it all works... not sonic bloom specifically but how the plant benefits and what research has been done.

Below is the thread link if you want to learn more: :joint:

It's a little more complex and subtle then that... It's not going to be some drastic ill effect that you can see with your eyes like you would with a nutrient deficiency or some other major problem.

Although some studies show that over time, plants will stretch and bend to grow away from some types of music, while they grow towards other types of music.

Most "Flushing Products" are actually just various types of sugars and/or Vitamin C... These type of products are not really needed... It is possible that they may be helping a little but a doubt that the results are worth the money, and I'm sure with a little research and effort you could easily make a similar product at home for a fraction of the price. Water works fine.

Some people think that flushing isnt "real", or doesn't effect the taste of the final product whether you flush or not... I say that they don't have as much experience as they would like to believe... Ive tested this many, many times and I can easily tell the difference (both visually and in the smell and especially in the taste) between a flushed and a not-flushed plant... I can even notice a obvious difference between a 4 day flush and a five day flush.... Flush your plants people lol.
Purely BS:o..."flushing" a plant is botanically impossible...just washing salts out of the soil...Is a make me feel better because "I dont want to smoke chemicals as they are bad for you"

WELL I WANNA SMOKE CHEMICALS...IT IS THE CHEMICALS THAT GET ME HIGH!!:hump:

Seriously though, trim really well, dry slowly, and it will taste great. Only flush if you wanna smoke your soil...then it may help:confused:

If they get too stoned then give them a little pick me up and see if they like cocaine... maybe they will come running for it after you blow it up their nose for them the first few times?

Number of people who died from cocaine use...millions
Number of people who died from marijuana use...zero

No big deal...chill out man...smoke one...oh no wait...u better not ...you might get dead.... this is the same mentality that made marijuana illegal...for real chill... you are too intelligent to think like that...
