N-P-K or Coffee Grounds, Egg shells, etc.

Which is better for growing(money-wise)? N-P-K or Coffee grounds and others. I have steady supply of coffee grounds; Coffee grounds from Starbucks work great and are FREE.

(P.S. This is not just for marijuana plants but universally.)

N-P-K is a great way to enhance growth and plant health but are there any less expensive common things to substitute these with?

Expand my ideas and my 'perfect' plant soil!

Not sure of the NPK of either. But my main use for egg shells is calcium and PH balance in the soil. And coffee beans are to attract worms, worms like eating coffee beans, which in return, the worms shit out gold for your plants. I suppose coffee beans do have a bit of nitrogen too.

im kinda confused with the question you need NPK always..you cant just supplement it..its has to come from something chemically or organically. maybe you should move into the organic thread and read around in there...i honestly have yet been 100% organics with my grows yet..though im soon to be there

I'm not sure about coffee and N. But, please, remember just because something decays and returns to the soil doesn't mean that they don't consume N in the process. Like pine needles.

i know grass clippings and leaves help the N in the ground..

i dunno about putting worms in the soil...just thinking about them crawling around in a pot makes me cringe lol..outside its okay

My setup is in a terrarium though. There's no way they'll crawl out.

youre gonna need to wrap something around the part where soil is..so the light can to the roots

You could skip the worms and go straight to their poop. Just get worm castings at a gardening store. Big bags of worm poop. Sprinkle your soil with X amount per liter of soil. Not sure the ratio, but very good time release characteristics and gentle on roots. I know it's more money, but I use them whenever I go with soil.

They were saying you need to keep light away from the root system. They are sensitive to intense light exposure. They just mistyped.

Okay, my light is not touching, seeing the roots in any way. Worm castings has worked well for you before?

not sureis this an indoor grow? if so dont put sticky,dirty egg shells in the medium,and coffee ,fuck me. Heres a better idea ,goto hydro shop get some good quality nutes for vegging and flowering and keep the coffee and eggs for breakfast.

This IS an indoor grow. I'm not wasting coffee or eggs. I eat the eggs. Wash out the shell so there's no more egg. It works great in my outdoor garden. My stuff is growing like a charm. Ever since I started putting coffee grounds in the soil too there has been an increased amount of worms I've seen.

I use them as a standard ingredient with soil growing. They are a great supplement and soil enricher. They have nearly every nutrient the plants need, easy on the roots....very mild, but effective....and they are like a time release that just keeps giving.

Of course, I now prefer hydroponic style setups. Much easier in my opinion. Not as messy. But that is neither here nor there.
