Out native soil seems good enough, quite a bit of clay but not so much that it holds too much water.. was just thinking about digging up an area, adding vermiculite, water crystals, zeolite, peatmoss, blood, bone, and kelp meal.. I also have alfalfa pellets for top dress.. what do you think?

Native soil is fine for a portion of your soil you will get local beneficial microbes from it. Also maybe grab some leaf mold ( decomposing leaves) to add to the mix < I would substitute that for the vermiculite and water crystals. Add some compost, rock dusts like Glacial rock dust for minerals and add the alfalfa and the rest of your stuff to the soil but I wouldn't top dress with it Alfalfa is hot. You are going to want to some aeration so either pumice, lava rock, rice hulls, or perlite. Once you mix everything together you are going to want it to sit for a few weeks and let things break down a bit and the microbe population to balance out and then you should be good to go. If you are growing outside the bigger the hole you amend the bigger your plant will be. Also when you plant, mulch with some of the leaf mold around your plant this will greatly reduce the amount of watering you need to do. If you got comfrey or stinging nettle around where your growing chop some up and put in a bucket of water for a few days and you can fertilize with that water.
