NEED ADVICE - Closet grow room concept

I am thinking a small closet grow until I can save up for a proper grow (unfortunately, outdoor is not an option until we work out some security details with my room mate (who owns the house). He is really cool and supportive, but has some concerns.

I am enclosing pics as the closet is now, ideally I would grow my legal 15 plants as allowed by the state, but I am thinking more like 8.

The room.
Size - Approximately 2.5 - 3 ft X 5 ft X 7ft (tall)
Security - My G/F and I rent a shared house from the owner (a good friend for many years). We rent the top half of the house. He hangs out but he's my buddy. I am the only smoker at home and both my girl and my room mate fully support my medical MJ and do not discuss my medical business to anyone. Some of his buddies ask him if he knows anyone with some and he says no even if he knows I have ounces. Physical security, fully automated security system with hidden control panel and everyone has a panic button. Plenty of other security I won't disclose for obvious reasons but I feel sorry for anyone why tries to break in.

Phase 1 - Preparing the room.
I will remove every single item from it and pull the carpet and padding to reduce the chance of mites/pests (we don't live filthy, but it's an added precaution. I will disinfect every surface and install linoleum as it is easier to clean.

Next, I will remove the shelf in the closet and paint it with the most reflective paint I can find (brand suggestions anyone?).

Next, A hole will be cut in the ceiling and an exhaust fan will be installed to route air into the attic (if I am using CFL's and venting to the attic, will there be a smell issue?).

I plan on putting 3 or 4 layers of panty hose to prevent spiders getting in from the attic.

On top of a door, I will hang some white visqueen over the door for added light blocking.

Phase 2 - The Build.
I was thinking 2 CFL's in 2 homemade reflectors - you should see this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs_QRorECvo

Simple celing hooks and a chain for light adjustment will be used. For flowering, 2 - 40W uvb florescent reptile lights will be added. I will be painting all items white in the grow room as well.

Cut small hole in door for the power strip. Put those childproof outlet caps on all of the powerstrip holes and lightly paint it too.

Find a card table just smaller than the room and put all my plants on it. Timer to flower and I need the height, quickly take off all the pots, fold the legs of the table and set it on the ground.

1 or 2 oscillating fans .

Does RIU think I need a filter for my exhaust fan? How about an actual intake (not just oscillating fans). Any improvements or suggestions? Is it enough lighting for 8 plants I (ideally) would grow to 3ft before flowering. Did I leave anything out? I plan on using some magnets I have been reading about this.:

It seems like your off to a good start. The only thing I would change is your lights. Those reptile lights you mentioned are far from decent for growing, let alone 8 or so plants. I highly recommend an hps light if you can swing the purchase and operating costs. Cfls will get you good results as well, but you need a lot of them to get those results. Go for 40 or 42 watt 2700k cfls for flowering, and use 5500 or 6500k cfls for veg. bongsmilie

the room concept is good! Suggestions: if you are worried about smell then you are definately going to need a filter because it will stink!diy carbon filter, way cheaper than buying one http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=29402 .. also, for the footprint you are going to be using (3x5)... i would really try to invest in either a 400 or 600 watt switchable ballast so you can switch bulbs. especially if you are wanting to grow the plants to 3 feet tall before flower, they will end up 4,5, or 6 feet tall by the end of the stretch... cfl's, especially with only 2 of them, will not be able to give you adequate light (50 watts/square foot of canopy) over the whole footprint and they won't be able to penetrate deep enough with larger plants. Also, if you are planning on growing more than about 4 plants to 3 feet tall, it will get really cluttered in there. so, definately consider doing a filter for your exahuast as well as investing in a 400w or 600w switchable hid if at all possible! P.S. brand of paint won't matter.. just get flat white, or if you really want good reflection you can get some mylar and just hang it on the walls after you clean them up! also, for the intake.. if there is a gap under the door and you leave the exhaust fan running 24/7, it will create negative pressure in the room so air will be sucked under the gap in the door and basically create a passive air intake, which will be good! cooler fresh air will come in at the bottom of the room and as it heats it will rise and exit through the exahaust in the top (just make sure there is a couple bug traps right by the bottom of the door or you cover it with screen so the critters can't get in there).. hope that answers your questions!

Thanks guys, I am adding to both your rep for the help. I am now thinking 600 W switchable. Was going to use a total of 800 W CFL's (do 3 200W CFL's produce as much heat as 1 600W HID light?), but now I may just go switchable. Thanks for the filter link, I will be sure to check it out. So, you think even if I vent it into the attic I will need a filter?

well... your grow is legal so i guess it's all up to how curteous you would like to be and whether you want people speculating that there may be growing goin on. my laws aren't quite the same... but when i grew and vented without a carbon scrubber... the whole area around the side/back corner of the house stunk. the smell can drift is all im sayin, so just keep it in mind! a scrubber is a quick addition especially if you already have carbon, are planning on building your own, and you ever feel like it should be done.

Thanks slo

While I may be legal, I don't want the house smelling like the marijuana emporium. I have a room mate (who owns the house) and he does not want a smell, so looks like filter it is. I'm guessing a home made carbon scrubber is much more in depth than a home made charcoal filter...

the charcoal/carbon filter/scrubber is all the same. smell is trapped in the moisture in the air. when the air is sucked through the prefilter and activated carbon/charcoal the moisture is taken out of the air which means the smell is absorbed as well. this is the reason you see charcoal and carbon distributers bragging on how they store their carbon or charcoal to keep it the dryest, this is so it can absorb more weight in moisture.

if the moister is taken out with the smell . would this also prevent mold in the attic? i am trying to figure out a venting solution my self and i can vent to the attic very easily but am afraid of mold in the attic. any suggestions?
