Need advice on a good quality (fast) bicycle for riding to work.

Hey everyone I'm interested in purchasing a bicycle that I can ride to work, would like it to have multiple gears, be a comfortable ride, not too expensive (under 2-3 thousand), and something that can go pretty fast (not a cruiser or mountain bike).

Any suggestions, I don't know much at all about different brands of cycles.

Any road bike of any of the major brands will meet your needs. Talk to the people at a local bike shop, and make sure you get one that fits your body. I can do 30MPH on my Trek road bike, if i really push it, and i regularly ride over 20MPH.

Also, check into electric bicycles. (e-bikes) They are great for commuting and get you where you need to go FAST. Seriously, faster than a car in urban areas.

Just make sure if you're using the bike everyday that it fits you, if not you'll be wasting energy and will tire quicker, as for speed go for a lighter frame and gear, outside of that it's all up to you how fast you're going to go. I've hit some pretty impressive top speeds ....here's a good starting point
