Need advice on intake filter

Hey everyone. I’m looking for an intake filter for a 6” fan. I’ve read that it’s possible to use various hepa filters and such, instead of getting something like a Phresh filter.

What do you all use? & how do you attach it to your fan/ducting? Links and/or pics would be amazing. I’ll be active on this thread but thanks in advance!

Are you growing in a tent? If so how big is your exhaust fan? If it’s big enough it draw in enough and you can simply attach a little filter on either side of the intake hole. No sense in using the extra wattage if it’s not needed.

My bad I should have included all that. It’ll be a 5x5x7 tent, 6” exhaust fan (440cfm) and a 6”x18” carbon filter. (Ordering it all today, it’s not set in stone).

You should be good just opening the vents and use just the exhaust it’ll pull more than enough air through those vents.

I’ve been told that in some of my other threads. I’m only running a 400w mh/hps right now, but I’m just worried about heat issues. Especially when I upgrade my lighting within.. a few days to a couple weeks. I’d just rather over do it a little than not have enough.

Tell me this... wouldn’t an intake fan be best so that I can turn on lights in the room the tent is in, when it’s sleep time for my ladies? This is another concern of mine because the tent will be in a bedroom.

Nah just close them off when they’re sleeping. It would be best to but the tent somewhere so it won’t be disturbed anyways. To keep smell from escaping you want to create a negative pressure in the tent that way no smell will escape other than through the filter.

Putting the tent elsewhere isn’t currently an option. Couldn’t I maintain negative pressure if I have my exhaust fan running at a higher speed than my intake fan? While still providing fresh air inside the tent.

Back to the topic at hand.. do you know of a cheaper way to go about an intake filter if I choose this route?

I use a dust shroom filter and am very happy with the results so far. It took me two people to install. Fan on the inside sitting in a bucket and dust shroom screw clamped to the outside securing it in place. They're bit pricey but supposed to filter mold spores and dust. Best thing is that it's washable. Hope that helps.

Good info, thanks. I’m going see if my intake will be sufficient with psssive intake. If not, I’ll look into this to use with an intake fan.
