Need an LED grower's input on full spectrum panels - New shop in town

Hey there, I've been talking to a new shop, and they offer top quality panels, and offered to build me custom spectrum panels for only 20$ more.

Their site is www.theotherpowercompany.ca

Now my question is, what's the best ratio for full spectrum? 7:1:1? Do you think I should get a custom panel built or is 7:1:1 good enough? I would probably be using CFl to help it veg

He's got panels available from less than 100W to 600W (Actual power draw, not LED rating)

As I am growing in a small (tiny) closet, but might want to expand to something slightly larger, I want something that's going to do me good for a second plant. My current area is 19.5"sq and 5' high.

These are the panels I am looking at (pre built, 7:1:1 panel)
120W - 335$
150W - 461$

He tells me these will replace a 500 and 650W HID respectively. Although those conversion charts are rarely accurate, the brightness of these panels seem to match it's HID counterpart.

I am still in email communication with him, so when I get more info I will update this thread. I still don't have complete details on the panel yet, what wavelengths are in use, LED count, light angle.

Edit:

The default specs are 7:1:1 660nm, 630nm and 460nm.
The panels have a 2 year warranty
The LEDs are Taiwan Epistar with a 120 degree viewing angle

Would anybody have suggestions on a custom LED panel? I was thinking similar to the Blackstar 240, but I notice they have spectrum that the plant's don't use, or just extra cost like the White, and IR?

I was hoping buying my lights from the guy above as he is fairly close to my area and would prefer dealing with a person and supporting local businesses.

Would it be a good idea to get the default panel he offers? or should I get it with more bands?
The LEDs are 1W each, red (620-630nm) , red(640-660nm) , blue (450- 460nm) , blue (460-470 nm).

Thanks.

The LEDs are 1W each
The LEDs are 1 watt diodes or drawing 1 watt? I'm assuming you mean they're one watt diodes, which aren't very good for flowering as far as I know. And do you really think 120 watts of LED can match up to 500 watts of HID? Not in this decade Phat, no way. I'd be careful of this guy if I was you. Good Luck!

The LED's are within 8% max of 1W, so from a 150W panel I would get 138W minimum of output. I know that they don't equal to the 600W HID, it's just what he said, and pretty much what he was told it equals to, and if you look online that's the number they give you.

You think this wouldn't be powerful enough?

Nothing special there. PAR includes more spectrums than they are offering, which tells me thy aren't well versed. Google HGL for great 411, then decide what to do. Real tech costs money, but over time can pay for itself. Based on what they are offering, I would expect you to replace ~ 3 years

Hmmm, you are right though, he isin't well versed in there, his primary business is alternative energy, and energy efficient lighting and heating, the panels are a side for him. The reason I was interested in those more is the local aspect and having a person to deal with in person if something does go wrong.

Now when you say HGL, you mean the Hydro Grow LED Penetrator X2 panels? Those are nice but are way out of my budget, would be 1200$ for a 200W panel. I was thinking something along the lines of the Pro-Grow 260 or the blackstar 240. Something along that line.

Or if this isn't that you meant would you have a link to a product page?

Thanks

OK now I found them on the website.

The 150 watt is made of one watt diodes and I just have a hard time believing a panel made of 1 watt diodes can grow any significant amount of cannabis. To me they look like any Chinese made panel that one could buy on Ebay/Alibaba. My opinion is that they aren't powerful enough and you should look elsewhere. Personally when people, especially salespeople, start comparing LED to HPS, I move on.

Yea, I just went over his details, they totally look like overpriced stuff.. Thanks for looking out for me!

Would you guys have suggestions on a LED panel for me?

Lets say ~400$ CAD at my door, if it needs to come from the US USPS would be the best since I don't want duty fees. But my main concern is, is it "obvious" getting a LED grow panel in the mail? Assuming they inspect the package.

I was thinking the Pro-Grow 260, any other suggestions?
