Need help/advice with my Grow Box.

Hello,

Basically i am starting to grow my own plant (i am trying with growing 1 first) and i need help/advice to improve my chances of growing a happy and healthy plant.

I built a 3ft(high) by 2ft(wide) by 1 ft (forward) growing box. I put 2 18" fluorescent lamps with 15 watt day light/ warm white tubes and a 20w (replaces 75 watt) ott-lite fluorescent light bulb (basically 3 fluorescent lights). I covered all the walls of the box with foil paper to improve lighting (im sure i have enough lumens if i turn all 3 lights at once for 1 plant but just to make sure). For soil i bought Miracle-Grow "seed starting pot mix" for when my seed is done germinating, and Miracle-Grow "garden soil for shrubs and trees" for when i transplant my healthy plant to a bigger pot.

The plant im growing is called (no joke) papaya (and some times mango). I also bought all-pupose plant food and some club soda with a spritser for when my plant is growing i could keep the co2 level decent for rapid growth.

Thats all i have, if you have any advice, please feel free to share as i am new to the cultivation of marijuana.

Hi 0ptipl3x,
3ft high are enough for a papaya (it's indica so it SHOULD grow fat instead of tall).
Let's talk about the lights :
Keep them as close as possible to your plant. Fluorescent light is not the best choice because is not able to penetrate in deep but it has the advantage that is not "hot". So mantaine it as close as possible. Use your hand to check how much close. If u feel warm your plant will feel warm too. I guess that 3'' should be enough.
Let's talk about the soil :
I never used Miracle Grow but (im not sure) i read it has lot of nuts insiede that could burn a young plants. Anyway add to your soil lot of perlite. It's usefull to allow air to come inside the soil and your plant roots will be happy for sure.

Is your seed a feminized one ?
If not u're losing and wasting your time and money.
You can know the sex of your plant only when u will star the bloom phase. If you use only a regular seed and u're unlucky u will discover after 1 month that u've growed a man plant. And u've lost money and time. If u want to be sure i suggest u to use 3 seeds. This will assure (well at least u've more chances) u that at least 1 will be a girl.

And now last but not least : read this forum as much as u can. Study this forum as much as u can. Take a tour in the Journal section. There are a lot of guys who already asked your same questions. That's why u didn't receive any answer.
First grow is an important moment and i know u've a lot of questions and doubts. But most of them are already explained. So sit down and read , read , read .. and read again :hump:
