It's probably residue from the hydroton you're using. You need to thoroughly wash hydroton before using it. As a rule, when you think you've washed it enough, wash it another 3 or 4 times. It's very hard to get it properly clean and you need to take your time over it or residue will build up in your res.

I use a large plastic container, fill with water and the hydroton, swill it around, empty water, refill....repeat.

Don't panic, it won't harm the plants, but do try and get rid of as much of it as you can because it can affect your PH balance.

So all I have to do is was the hydroton again over and over how can I get it out of my water lines

If you really need to save the water lines you could just flush them with hot water....but dude....it's like 99p a meter....buy some new ones, clean out the res, refit....job done :)

I did the same thing. I thought I washed my hydroton good enough after 2 rinses, well I was wrong. I had the same residue all over in my bucket. It also makes my roots look dark but I continued to rinse them off in ph'd water. Next time I will know to rinse better.

You could wash the hydroton with a little bit of hydrogen peroxide and water. As for the lines i definitely recommend you switch to black to avoid algae growth :o
