thanks for taking the trouble mate,

400MH/HPS over 3x3 ebb & flow, from seed 6 hybrids, not sexed yet. first grow. everything operating smoothly so far 3 weeks from germ. however i don't have a plan for the grow method. i thought a experiment would be best using top-for-four-tops, sog, scrog, lst to see what works best but i see problems with different heights of the plants. what do you suggest bob?

I'd top twice and scrog the whole thing, you should get an even canopy...if any plants seem to get out of line just train it along the scrog! I'd love to see some pics BTW!!!

If you are transplanting right before flowering your wasting soil, you need to wait at least 1 week and 2 would be better to allow the roots to dig into the new dirt once you flip them to flower root developement slows way down as the plant changes its purpose

and Bob your doing a great job, I'm enjoying seeing good/correct answers given (often rare on this forum, as some of us are aware)
Thanks for the input..I will re-pot and give it a week or two before going into flower time mode.

SLB,

any evidence or research that suggests 24/0, 20/4, or 18/6 is better than the other to vegitate plants in?

18/6 is optimum (they need a dark period) 20/4 is a compromise and 24/0 is folks trying to keep em small

I start at 16/8 then slowly work up to 18/6 then slowly work back down to 12/12 to simulate mom nature, also builds better root systems and that is very important, mine are currently 3 weeks old tomorrow and on 17.5/6.5 growing bout an inch a day

is there actual data on this or is it an assumption ?

Riddleme is extremely experienced and has more than likely tried every method of growing there is! I personally do 18/6 and gradually decrease to 12/12 in 30 minute intervals everyday...like Riddleme said, it helps to simulate mother nature more accurately and that is your goal in an indoor garden!

hey man
nice thread you got going here...

perhaps you can help me....i screwed up my last few seeds a couple of weeks ago i reckon i overwatered....once they popped through the soil they grew an inch and then stopped growing eventually drooping leaves and pale green color.... i cucked them out and noticed a mouldy hairy fungus on the roots probably pythiam rot or damp off whatever you call it....

anyway got some new ice seeds, put 4 in a jar of water this past tuesday morning and 7 hours later they had all sunk to the bottom, later tuesday evening i then popped them about half an inch into my new soil mix which is 45%potting soil, 25%perlite, 20%vermiculite and 5% earthworm castings...i then watered them down with 150ml of water.
pot size = 5 inches high and 12cm round
yesterday (4 days later) most had popped through the soil and the rest popped through this morning. the pots seemed dry almost crusty so gave them each 50ml of water, watered around plant not over it or near the stem....

i did use plastic seran wrap to cover the pots the last time to promote humidy and keep em moist which i think contributed to the mould/fungis on the roots....i have avoided the plastic wrap this time round....

currently using 4x 36W cool daylight flourescent tubes on a 24 hour schedule
temps are between 24-27 degrees around 77-82 f

so my questione is how often and how much should i water my seedlings???

any help is always appreciated

Probably every other day, but there are so many ways for people to figure out when to water, i.e. stick your finger 2in. into the soil if you feel no moisture then they are in need of a watering, another one is to let the soil become somewhat dry, then lift the pot and feel the weight, then water the plant and feel the weight once more...you should be able to feel a slight difference...or you can just leave them alone until they show signs of under-watering(drooping is usually the first symptom to occur) I, personally use the last one...when I see the signs, I water until the water rises about 1/2-1 inch above the soil to get a nice even watering and prevents any dry pockets to occur in the soil...

It is quite normal for the bottom leaves to yellow and die off, especially this late into flowering or if they are not getting proper lighting, but pics would help identify a problem, if there is a problem to be diagnosed...

I answered you in my nutes on a budget thread, add Sphagnum Peat Moss the PH of it is 4.3

Thank you, and like Riddleme said, Sphagnum peat moss should lower the pH of your soil and is commonly used by cannabis growers that mix their own soil...

OK SLB, why do people top and is there proof it improves yield ? I know with a fruit tree you keep it small with fewer branches for big fruit, if you just let it grow with lots of branches you get more fruit but all smaller. I NEVER top, in or out, so whats the deal ?
