If you do use the MH....place the light about 3 ft above the plant....then lower it a tiny bit everyday. Placing a fan blowing over the top of the plant/between the plant and the reflector will help keep things cool...

good luck

alright thanks bro i was wondering because i didnt want to fry my babies because 400w is a lot for one plant but then again i had 4 going and 3 of them took a beating i left and the room got over 100 and this was the only 1 that surivied so i used floros to keep it alive and also because someone told me too saying that light wouldnt be as intense and it hasnt and has bounced back but keep the light 3ft away and i should be okay?

Wait a while or throw away money. Your choice. btdt is not suggesting you should put it in use, he is saying if you do, start about 3' above it. Your cfl's placed properly will give your plant as much usable light as the 400watt will when you have it 3' above the plant. Why spend the extra money lighting up the 400. Fix your ventilation system first. let your plant grow a few roots and leaves before you fire up the big one.
You could probably even start a few seeds now that would catch up to this stressed little plant, kinda keep it company, and make using the 400 watt light pay you back with some more bud. VV

My first grow I was using a SH bubbleponics system. I never used the CFLs that came with it, I started from germ with my 400w mh, and they did really well. Of course I had never grown anything before, and that was before I found this place. But I don't think it would hurt the plants..my .02

After I went back to the grow room I realized I could probably give you a better answer than before. Here are some pics of my curent op. 8 plants are under the 400w MH and they're only 10 days old, the other 4 are also 10 days old and under the 2 40w fluorescents. First thing to notice is that the MH is only about 16 inchs from the tops of the plants, and there's no burning/wilting/etc. Second is that there is no noticeable difference between either group of plants as far as size or health goes....so if you can, save your money, but if your not concerned about your bill, you're not going to hurt the babies.

lol, I know exactly what you mean. My gf and I started growing because I refuse to pay over $300 an ounce, and we were tired of smoking mids. If you're anything like me you'll just end up getting more and more into it, and trying to out do youself on each next grow. I think my whole setup was some where just under $2000...but its not like I have other hobbies :)

Thanks for clarifying, VV. Definitely BE CAREFUL if you use the 400.

I can't comment on the CFL's as I don't use em. (I use t-5's) I will say though that ALL lights put out heat..so even with CFL you can burn em...it just won't cost you as much to do so. (LOL)

THE MOST IMPORTANT ADVICE given was VV's comment "fix your ventilation system first".

No matter WHAT LIGHT is being used..the grower should ALWAYS set the space up and test it out for HIGH TEMPS BEFORE putting the plants in the space. There's NO REASON to ever fry a plant from high temps..unless that is..yer fan dies and that is simply VERY BAD LUCK...not poor planning.

yup..pop more seeds rbk...you still have time and one plant may not fill the bill if you know what I mean...

good luck
