I have a closet that is 45''x28'' and 99'' tall. How many plants can I grow with this size of space? I also live in an apartment so there is not really a way to vent the closet. Does this mean that I can't use an MH bulb? I really want to but I'm worried heat might be an issue.

Heat will be an issue. That is a large enough space to do something with if you get your ventilation squared away. You can probably go about six plants in there.

Man, follow this thread and read about how this guy does it. I would DEFINITELY recommend that you use CFL's for a box that size, otherwise it could get well hot...

You can try using a small ac unit, but might raise humidity.
But on a scale, i believe heat is a bigger issue that humidity.
