ive been looking at these forums for months trying to figure out what will work best for me then i finally got the balls to join. i live in las vegas and i'm stressing out because i want to put about 500-1000 into my first setup i've seen a lot of affordable equipment on ebay but will it be possible to house a perpetual grow with 16 in flower 16 i veg with a 12x12 room and the amount i'm trying to spend and still get good results with my bud. some of the equipment i'm getting are 2 600w with vented hood, carbon filter, home made Co2, and of course all the smaller stuff like pots, soil, nutrients. has anyone got a complete list of equipment or done a setup similar, also my biggest fear is that i won't yield enough to replace my expenses.

For that money you can start and maintain a perpetual grow. I did it.
I would buy a 1000W set-up for flowering and a 400W set-up for vegging. A 1000W bulb is considered large enough to cover an 8 x 8 room. My 1000W HPS set-up is in a 8 x 8 room and I harvest 2 plants a week. Every week.
The flowering room will be your choke point. You need to figure on committing 3 or 4 times the room for flowering as for vegging. I have around 12 plants flowering and about the same amount vegging at all times.
Most important skill for keeping a perpetual grow perpetual is to master cloning. To harvest 2 plants a week I have to be able to provide 2 veggers a week ready for flowering. It is difficult to time all your grows so things flow properly. Find a couple (indica) strains that are easy to clone and a lot of your problems will disappear.

i've really been wondering about that question also. i mean my ceiling has the height to grow a good sativa. is it true that sativas give a better yield, and is light penetration a factor. or should i get a hybrid i've been looking at ak 47, big bud(for yield), Ice for potency, Northern Lights(good for beginners), Aurora Indica.

At first I was trying to grow everything in 3-5 gallon pots. They would take 6-8 weeks to veg and that was simply too long a time period to keep a perpetual grow going. So I started experimenting with smaller pots and more transplants. Now I grow most of my "production" plants in 1- 1 1/2 gallon pots after transplanting twice. I FIM my clones and seedlings as early as possible to keep them short and bushy. When they hit 18-22 inches in the veg room they are ready to flower. I have enough room under my 1000W flower light for plants to grow up to 48 inches before finishing too close to the bulb. After a lot of experimenting I've settled on what I call growing them hot. Means I use a lot of nutes early and stick them as close to the light as possible. Clones veg for 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 weeks before reaching 18-22 inches and into flower they go. My hot little indicas finish in 6 weeks and average one oz/per plant cured. Good luck, BigSteve.

Set up two tents. A 3x3 with CFL's and a 4x8 with 3x 600 HPS. Each tent gets an exaust fan (filter on the 8x4 exaust) and recerc fans. The HPS should go through air cooled hoods with another fan. Don't bother with CO2 unless you plan on running a/c to keep the temps in check. Otherwise, you'll just run exaust fans pretty much non-stop as long as the local climate cooperates. This will also keep the humidity at acceptable levels.
Pick a 6 - 8 week flowering strain... You're going to flower for 8 weeks. 2 2 2 2 2 2 out.
Put mama in the 3x3. Run the lights 18/6
Take 15 cuttings and root them in rock wool outside of the tents in a seedling starter humidity dome under a floresant grow light.
In two weeks, transplant into solo cups with holes in the bottom and quality soil. Move them in with mama and start 15 more cuttings.
In two weeks transplant the solo cup group into 8x8 square pots & soil and put into the 4x8 tent. They will take up 1/4 of the tent (24"x40"). Run the lights 12/12. Move the new clones to solo cups with mama and take 15 more cuttings.
Continue this pattern and you'll pull 15 plants every two weeks @ about 3/4 lb.
This is the most economical perpetual setup I can think of. The drawback is the number of plants if you're worried about Johnny Law. You're maximizing, space, electricity and timing efficiency by sacrificing plant size and individual yield potential. A strain that ripens in 9 weeks could go 3 3 3 3 3 out with fewer, bigger plants. You could also swap out the CFL's for a MH light for bigger veg growth, but that's gonna burn more electricity and add heat... You have to find the best compromise that works for you.
