I have a couple thread over in neb central but didn't really get any help would prob be better here. I need to mix up my soil so I can transplant im running promix. what I need to know is how much blood and bone meal to add per gal of soil? I also have some Epsom salt I wanted to mix in but need to know how much of that also and should I crush it first? already added the lime. also what would be a good k source because the blood meal has none and the bone is low like 1 I think. also have some great white mycorrhizae im gonna add

I also will be picking up some worm castings 2day and some bat guano. so I need to know how much of each thing I should add to my soil so ill be adding blood meal, bone meal, worm castings, bat guano, lime, Epsom salt, and some great white. I think I add 1 tbs per gal of soil for blood meal and 2 tbs per gal bone meal. not sure about the worm castings guano and Epsom. should this give me an alright mix?

Grab some kelp meal for k and trace minerals. I wouldn't just add the great white to your soil. Sprinkle it on the roots or in the root zone when you transplant. You're wasting it by just mixing it throughout the soil. You can be pretty liberal with the worm castings. I make my own soil and worm castings account for 25% to 33% of my base. If you add a substantial amount, you are going to want to add some more perlite/pumice or whatever you use for aeration because the ewc can really compact your soil.

I can't help you with the rest of your mix because I don't use blood meal, bone meal, epsom salts, etc.

Good luck

^^^ Yep. Kelp is essential. I'd put some alfalfa in there, too. Here's a good rule of thumb for adding "nutrient" amendments to your soil mix. Take equal parts (if using kelp, use twice as much, in other words two parts kelp, one part this, one part that, one part the other thing...)of all your amendments and mix them together thoroughly. Then use 2-3 cups of this mix per cubic foot (7.5 gallons) of base soil (compost/ewc, perlite, promix or peat moss). Your guano is one of these amendments. I mix large amounts of soil when I make my own. You'll have to do the math for small batches. I can't help with the Epsom salts. I don't use it in my mix. But I'm sure that it's ratio is WAAAAAY lower than what I just described, so don't be using one part Epsom salt in your amendment mix! It would be bad.

Am I understanding things correctly? Are you using Pro-mix as part of your soil base? And you added lime to it? Pro-mix already has lime in it to counteract the acidity of the peat moss. If your making a small batch of soil, I'd start over. The excess lime may give you problems down the road.

Per 1 gallon soil, typically add around 1-2 teaspoon Blood Meal, 1 tablespoon Bone Meal, 1-3 teaspoons guano, 1 cup of earthworm castings, and about 1/4 teaspoon epsom salt. not sure about the Great White though.

I would look for a promix thread. Then ask what amendments to add. Make sure they are growing organic if that's what you're seeking. Some of the promix people use synthetic nutrients so there advice wouldn't be too helpful.

There is no one golden answer as we all throw in a bunch of ingredients into are mix. What works for him/her might not work for you. Some of us cook are soil while others don't. Some might throw in tsp of bone meal, but then add a tsp of fishbone meal.

I like KronicCraig's amounts ^^^^. That will get you close to the right ballpark. "Cook" your mix first if planning on using them globally into your mix...along with everything else. Shoot for a pH between 6.2 - 6.6.

And watch your lime. Calcidic lime would be my first choice of lime as dolomite lime and garden lime has a high ratio of Mg to Calcium. Shoot for 5:1 ratio or 7:1 - somewhere around there. Oyster shells/flour/powder/crushed will bring in lots of Ca and buffer your mix as well. Some organicare cal/mag and your molasses will bring in some extra Mg.

I noticed a box of garden lime at the grow shop that had a ratio of 2:1 Calcium to Mg. This is a serious "no no" in my book.

Ya i got my amendment portion size from the Rev's TLO book. He has entire page about reamending soil and amount of nutes to put back in
