It's been a long month of reading through threads with great info but then every few posts is pinworm's trolling nonsense. You'll find out whose advice you can trust on a forum based on their previous posts..

I'd start out with 3 plants for that size tent so you have some extra room for them to grow. I'd start out with the light 36" away when they're first sprouting (6ft is impossible in a 5' tent)- this is where the medium is relevant, it dictates your vertical space . If it's too far, plants will stretch and suffer from receiving uneven light top to bottom. Too close and they can bleach and burn. Do you plan on using soil in planting pots?

Pinworm is on point with ventilation- it's key to appropriate temperatures as well as providing airflow and CO2 to your plants. It will keep the smell contained too if that's an issue.

I feel like I should mention (now that we are friends and all) that he said he's using CFL. That's fluorescent lighting. OP will not need to worry about bleaching. He will need to worry about stretch. Especially if he follows your advice of a 3' clearance. Also, medium does not dictate vertical space. What the hell does that even mean? How long you plan to veg is going to tell you how much space you are going to need. OP should read up on LST and maybe a how to on scrogging. I would consider reading for another month or two before handing out tickets for relevance of info.

Get a 6' inline or booster fan. Something with at least 240cfm. Idk, look on eBay or amazon. Ideal temps are 72-76F, and 50-60%RH. Good luck.
n 170cfm in 4x4 for first few months until i added 630w to my tent then upgraded to max fan 3 speed 6" fan but intake from air out side is still 4" with dustshroom. lil bit of negative pressure but thats taken care of by simply opening vent in tent i have small area in house but with two tents and proper circulation I'm at 82.6 during lights on and 77 lights off. humidity 60% in summer and 20 in winter
70-85 look up fan and filter combo

I'm the champ. everyone else is below me jk lol
I just got my first grow tent and a hood and light and was wanting to know how many plants would be ideal in this setup and how far should I put my new bulb from plants as the grow. also the temps high like in the 90f.
here the tent I got

the plasma alone needs nothing in here temps with just here is 72 all day long no matter how hot outside. best and coolest light available in my opinion.. My led that draws 135 rated at 240 output has 3 fans and is flipping hot in tent.. so i had to add 4" exhaust to the 2x2.5 gorilla. where as i had the rocket in there and never worried.. my 200w feliz cfl was a bit hot too. I actually like the 4 bulb t5 set up for every 2 plants its only 84w and does wonderful things.. hell i just vegged both girls until i decided to add the led to see what it can doIMG_5199.JPGIMG_5201.jpg IMG_5216.jpg IMG_5217.jpg IMG_5218.jpg IMG_5222.jpg

I simply love those air Pots. i had several of them i mix mine with oregons only dirt and crushed lava for help in not compacting soil 70/30 ratio and mine well it works very well no need for all that weird shit people put in soil.. second I don't have issues with feeding the lava has so much natural nutrients in them i barely need to feed only when the girls tell me..

you will never regret it easier to clean too. I'm a lil crazy like this I've tried every method you can think of and well I'm a hydro and soil guy.. ill do both at same time all the time simply because I CAN oh yeah.. theres only hydro where I'm at. so i grow soil for me and hydro now for when i run out.. i don't sell but do give away to people who need it.... no money will ever exchange these hands or this locationIMG_0223.jpgIMG_5051.JPG IMG_5054.JPG
I've been using fabric but thinking of going with those

ok I'm done if anyone has questions about anything just inbox me.. i maybe a newbie with some stuff yet to learn.. But i will say I'm knowledgable in how are eco system works and the balance of life that is y my stupid grows are successful.. Quality not quantity. i run mostly organics no matter what the method is... water dirt air i don't care roots organics is my choice along side beneficial biologics and some good ol powdered food veg n bloom dirty thats where its at fool proof method my friends. even 3000ppm never hurt my crops
first ever grow of any kind

Any high powered light can burn a plant. I advised 3' at seedling stage, not vegging. In terms of vertical space, I was referring to whether he was using planters or a hydro system, as a reservoir takes up vertical space. How long I've been a member of this forum says nothing about my experience growing.

The information you are using says evrything I need to know about your "experience growing". You bought yourself a growers bible read a few stickies and now your a 3 grow pro.

Dam I need better seeds where do you get them in us? im using soil as of now. Also I bought a lot of different fertilizer and nutrients. what would be the easiest way to feed and water them once there done seeding?

I have a couple tents these size, perfect for vegging but I find there's not really enough space to flower more than a couple plants (where the hell do I put the carbon filter besides the floor?? lol). I found 1 gal pots keep the plants small enough for the tent and a 6" fan is WAYYY too much... a 4" fan and filter is plenty.. Good luck!

Another note... That big CFL is still going to be kicking off some heat.. I started off with a couple 105 cfls and they quickly got pushed to the side.. By hook or by crook I'd upgrade the lights..

smaller cfls are better for growing than larger wattage CFLs, hands down....
they must be closer than typical HID lighting as the luminous intensity/discharge is much more quickly effected by inverse square law. heat will diminish faster with an active intake and passive exhaust, plus it adds a slight bulge to the fabric of a tent versus being vacuumed in, you actually have a bit more room to work in. In a tent your size 3-4 plants in 3 gallon grow bags would be fine... as for the cfls.... Ditch them! You'll never regret it.

carbon filter on the exhaust smart guy... what do you think relieves heat better:

blowing on your hot soup
or
inhaling over it....

case and point

Well smart guy, you're pushing through your cf instead of pulling... look it up.. If you have ANY leaks ANYWHERE (tent, seal on cf/fan, hole in ducting?) by creating positive pressure you would be pushing STANK instead of pulling it in through the cf..

I think you may be missing the point... certainly not making your case
