Need Wiring Advice Please

I bought a vanity light to install cfl's in the grow room and i'm trying to wire it to an extension cord.
Cord
Light

I cut the outlet end off and exposed the 3 wires only to find green ground and no color coding on the 2 main wires.
The light has green screw (ground) brass bare wire, black, and white.

I remember that plugs are center prong ground, small prong is hot and large is neutral. This plug has the two prongs the same size.

What should I do?

The prong on the plug in the picture you linked to that is closest to front is the "hot" or black wire side.
Often the zip cord, (wire) for these things has a trace of some sort on one wire of the pair.

It does matter sometimes with CFL's as they work with a ballast and can be affected by leakage.
The center lead on the CFL should be hot wire.

Didn't Die

I used every precaution. Followed the +positive wire from the plug and wired it to the black, white to other, and ground to ground then capped the wire ends seperately and taped for extra saftey. I also used a wire nail to secure it to the wood fixture backing.

it wouldnt have mattered man its AC elec, the current changes wires on average 60x a sec. the key is that the wires are insulated and the ground is hooked up properly
