New Grower - Building Grow Closet - See Pics.

Hey Everyone! I'm new to this board, and it seems like there are a lot of experience growers on here. I have read a lot online and done a lot of research, and am now going to get into some growing of my own. I just ordered some seeds (Jock Horror, Blue Mystic, and Haze).

First off, i was looking at ordering one of those "Sunlight Sheds" but didnt have the money to spend, so simply put, I went to multiple hardware stores and bought my own parts and then spent 2 or 3 days putting everything together. I was hoping you guys should give me some suggestions....i was going to get a 600w MH/HPS light, I already ordered a 10 plant drip system with 3 inch growing cups and 10 gallon resovior, will be using rockwool and volcanic grow rocks. I also ordered PH UP and DOWN as well as a tester, ozone generator (a small one), thermometer / humidity tester, as well as some nutrients. Any suggestions, anything i'm doing wrong? I'm a first timer, but trying to get it right.

Here's what the outside of my growbox looks like so far:

Terrible camera...i know haha. I lined the inside with bubbled insulation, which is VERY reflective, and lined any edges with reflective tape.





The top right of the closet has 2 vents, one sucking air out from the bottom grow area (pic below), and another sucking air in from the top of the closet (pic below). The hot air is going out a window behind the closet (noone will be able to see it).

Also I was wondering, of the 3 strains of seeds that I got, which ones should have the best yield, which would you suggest me growing with first?

Niceee setup man. How many plants you plan on running? 600w seems a little over the top for the much space. I'd go with 50-400watt. Also do you have a fan in their? Other than that sounds like your set.

Yep! The top right of the setup has 2 bathroom vents, one sucking air in, and the other pulling hot air out from the top of the grow area. I'm going to go with a 400w setup. Any idea on what strain(s) i should begin with? Again, i ordered jock horror, blue mistic, and haze. I ordered a 10 plant drip system, but we will see. They only have 3 inch pots, so if a lot of the plants turn out to be fem I will build a second grow cabinet and order a larger system to accomodate. I want to keep it to 3 plants per closet when they start getting big.

Oh, this whole setup i estimate will cost me no more than 500 bucks altogehter. So far i have spent $285.00.

Nice man sounds like your ready to go. I would go with each strain so you can have a variety of coices what to smoke at the end. Also remember that every one(except feminized) seeds have a 50/50 male to femle ratio. SO i would plant with a 400 hps in there 2 seeds of each strain hopeing to get half female(3-4plants).

Good growing be sure to make a journal and you'll get lots of help on here with any problems.

That I will. Luckily, i work from home so i have PLENTY of time to monitor growth. I just also ordered a WICKED computer program and hardware on ebay. It is a power strip that can be managed and timed remotely via the internet. So even if i do go away, i can set up a webcam to view meters..etc. and also control the power of fans, lights, hydro, and the works all from one place. It cost me like 200 bucks, but DEFINATELY worth it.

damn that sounds like a pretty badass computer program. definitely will help aid some of the away from the box worries.

Hey everyone! I have been getting a lot of great advice from some of you guys, but still have a few questions and stuff -

Here are my current conditions:

Closets:

• As you can see in the beginning of this thread, I started building a grow closet. I went the extra mile and now I have 2 closets (room for growing inside the closets are 55inches tall, 47 inches wide, and 17 inches deep). Of course these dimensions do not include room needed for the lights, and pots.
• I ordered the Waterfarm 8 pack hydro system GENERAL HYDROPONICS with plenty of extra supplies like nutrients, ph tester, ppm meter, rockwool, and hydroton (80 pounds worth....cant hurt to have extra).
• I also ordered 2 - 400 watt HPS / MH lights (switchable, with extra bulbs) with ballasts and such. One light for each closet.
• Each closet has been fitted with plenty of ventallation, and have been COMPLETELY coated on the inside with reflective bubble insulation.
• Each closet has 3 forms of ventallation - 2 air intakes (with fans). One intake is for cooling the lights directly (this air is coming from an inside air conditioner), and the other is sucking in fresh air from outside. The other vent is sucking hot air out, complete with fans leading out into the attic.
• For Odor - I plan on creating 1 ozone generator (building myself) - i found plans online, and they seem VERY easy to make.
• Humidity Control - I bought a small humidifier (2 gallon) and a small de humidifier the same size for use if i need it, as well as thermometers, and humidity testers.

VEG CHAMBER

• A smaller sized storage unit that I bought has the same specs except its not as tall (it's about half the height). I plan on using this area for transplanting clones in the future.

Each closet will house 4 plants, and the veg unit has a small drip system for up to 10 plants (I will start growing here, and then transplant into the waterfarm system). I figure if I start 10 - 12 plants, then after I weed out the males HOPEFULLY i can get lucky and have my entire waterfarm system running full of 8 nice ladies.

STRAINS:
Taking advice from people on this forum i will be germinating and growing 2 seeds of each strain I ordered (for variety) Jock Horror, Blue Mystic, and Haze.

My goal is to get at least 1 or 2 good mother plants from this grow, that way my next grow will be much bigger from clones, and i can keep up a continious harvest .


QUESTIONS:

1. Given a 30 - 35 inch tall plant, (will be flowered at 15 inches or so), flowering for 1.5 - 2 months, what kind of yeild will I be capable of producing?
2. Cooling - Cooling has been a bitch, even with proper ventallation. Where I live the nights are still kind of hot and humid, and this will not change until the end of october, which will make things easier because then i can suck in COOL air from outside, but for now what are your suggestions? The second I turn a light on even in the room ( a basic light) the temp goes up to like 85 - 90degrees F, and If i dont do something, i know the temp will jump to 95 - 100 degrees as soon as i put the new lights in.
3. Self Made Ozone Generators - Anyone made one here before? Do they really work and get rid of the smell?
4. Any other suggestions, questions, comments? I'm a first timer, but am trying to learn as much as possible, and these boards have been my reading material for the past week or two.
   
   I will post pics as soon as I'm finished building, (in a day or two) - I should get my seeds from nirvana in a week or 2 (they have already shipped) and hopefully I will get them with no problem.

Space between the 2 closets (where the light is) will house the waterfarm controller unit.




You can see my little veg chamber on the right of this closet. The cardboard box next to it is hooked to ventellation and will probably hold an air conditioner soon.



The closets closed - very neet looking, but not that stealthy, considering they take up most of the room haha.

hey im almost old compared to alot of people here but i can dig that computer thing,it looks like you put alot of thought and passion into this,so i wish you the best.

haha yeah I did trapper - I have been wanting to start growing for a long time, and now (finally) I have the means to do so and LOTS of privacy.

I'm just about finished building everything, now all i'm waiting for are my lights, and waterfarm system. Here's how the layout works in detail.

Alright Guys! I have some updates!

Got my seeds from Nirvana VERY FAST. 7 Days since I ordered, and very stealthy. 3 of each 4 different type of seeds are germinating using the method where I got a paper towel pretty moist, folded up, and placed between 2 paper plates. They are in a dark area, also on a VERY LOW heating pad keepin the temp at around 82 - 85. Also got the rest of my equipment:

- Waterfarm 8 Pack Drip System (for flower)
- 10 Plant drip hydro system (for veg)
- PPM Tester
- 80 Pounds of Hydroton (enough and plenty extra for later )
- Mix of Flora Nutrients

Also Ordered Today:
- PH Tester + Calibration Solution
- Small Indoor Air Conditioner
- 2 Gallons of PH UP, 2 Gallons of PH DOWN
- Big Bud Nutrients for Blooming

On the list to purchase soon:
- Reverse Osmosis Filter
- Mini Dehumidifier
- Another 400 watt light w/ballast for MH/HPS
- Airstone for Resovoir

I set up 4 of 8 of the waterfarm units, and set up the control unit and resovoir. The vegging system will be used at first, and when I weed out the males, everything will be transplanted to the waterfarm system as I clone the females.

Here are Pics of the setup! I also added new exhaust fans used in mainframe computers, they are VERY powerful, and definately get the job done. All this was built by hand. Sorry for the shitty pics, gets the point across though!

I have a TON of cfl's that I will be using for side lighting, alternating cool white and soft white. Already a few installed as you can tell

Received my Blue Mistic seeds from Nirvana, still waiting on Haze and Jock Horror....

Also ordered some seeds from DR. Chronic (Feminized Blueberry, and Nevilles Haze Hybrid *feminized*)

I germinated 4 Blue Mistic seeds already, 2 of them have been transplanted to Rockwool cubes in my small drip system, and the other 2 are still germing. The ones in rockwool are under 24/7 MH @ 400watts - Hopefully we will start to see them sprout soon! I havent added any nutes to the resovoir, BUT my current water PPM is 210 from tap after I let it sit for a day and a half. Not sure of PH, BUT I will have the meter, calibration solution, and PH UP and DOWN any day now from ebay. Any suggestions would be appreciated. This is my first grow and I want to get it right!

dude you are an inspiration. dont mean to impose on ur thread but my first grow was a shotty litle bagseed plant. now you said that was a bathroom fan? isnt it noisy? do you have to worry about smell problems? thats some smelly shit there unless your legal or like live in a country where it is.carbon scrubbers. do you live in us? just askin
