New indoor grower - how much light = too much heat for my area?

Hey folks. First time grower here, just want to be able to grow enough for me and cut out the middleman.

I was in a thrift store the other day and saw a little book shelf that seemed perfect for me.

It's dimensions are:
24" wide, x 9.5" deep, x 36" tall

It's made of wood.

I want some sort of HPS system, preferably a 150w or 250w. Can I find one to fit inside my grow area? If not, would it be possible to possible buy a lamp set up, strip the reflector around it, and just rely on the mylar to reflect back towards the plants? Or will I run into weird heating issues?

Right now I have an old xbox 360 fan wired to an old 12v adapter. (Two fans in one).

My question is, will I have too much heat with that setup? I plan on having the double fan on intake, and picking up another 80mm or so cpu fan for exhaust.

I intent to grow a strain of Lowryder #2, so I'm not too concerned with missing out a little in the veg stage. I will be lining the inside with some form of mylar.

Thanks guys,
SF7.

Hps make a lot of heat But the lilttle ones are about like an incandessant an it can be managed, if you vent the hell out of it (severak big pc fans) could work, or use a reflector thats ventable

Your going to have to set it up an test it with thermomiter to know for sure.

Hmm yeah, seems like there's a lot of experimenting that can go on when doing something like this.

I've almost gotten everything assembled, just need to wire up the old xbox fan. Between that (double fan) and another basic 80mm CPU fan, maybe I'll be fine.

Money has become an issue though, so I'm going to have to grow with some CFLs initially.

Wish me luck.

Hps seems like it would be to much for ur box. If thats absolutely the box u want to use go with some cfls, alot of them . If u can find a taller space mayb u can get away with the hps

u might get away with it if u have ur air intake low and fans drawing striaght out of the top if your not worried about stelth get an enclosed light cut a hole out of the top of the box and set the light right on top
