Its going to take some good documented successful grows to waiver my thoughts. So far, no good results.

yea no evidence...

of course they work. they're just very expensive compared to the amount of lumens/per $1. you get out of a traditional ballast kit.

yeah ive seen some bomb LED grows. I dont know why everyone thinks they dont work. Perfect for a closet grow, not good for a full op though...

look at the LED example pic though you could get better than that with 2 42w CFL's

LED's MAYBE would be worth it as a clone light

haha are you kidding? Go on youtube, watch some videos.

im growing an autoflower with 4 26 watt CFLs and its nothing great, id rather have the LEDs.

yeah ive seen the video of a supposed 600w equivalent get blown out by a 400 w HPS. LED's work ALRIGHT for veg, but get real if LED's were good you would see more grow journals using them. right now still a novelty

oh vapor use your hps if you got it i read yo journal ! looks like your using 27k bulbs mang!! use the HPS or get blue "daylight" bulbs

the autoflower has to be under the light for 20 hours a day, so whenever the HPS is off its under the CFLs. Once it turns on i throw it under the HPS.

I think CFLs and LED will produce the same results at harvest, LEDs are just more efficient. With the autoflower i have to have it under the 27k's becuase thats the "warm white" that is used for flowering. Ill use CFLs for vegging but nothing else. The current grows i have going have all started at different times. If i do auto's anytime soon ill do 12 under the HPS. But really, after this harvest, i have one more grow under the 150w, then im going to upgrade to a 400 or 600. 150w's are way too weak

lol, are you a pig head, THERE TO EXPENSIVE for lumen/per watt, that's why everyone doesn't use them, NASA uses all LED's for their space grows

LED’s are only too expensive for watts to lumens IF you cannot afford to spend the money.

They are expensive in the same way that a Bugatti Veyron is. If you earn $50k a year it is damn expensive but if you earn $50 mil a year it is not expensive and is a real value for your dollar considering what it gives you for your dollar.

A while back I followed an all LED grow where a person with a rather large amount of bucks bought a very large number of high grade LED lights and drown his plants in LED lighting.

He had large LED light panels above and smaller LED lights above and to the sides pointed at angles. HE had LED light bars on what he called portable posts that were placed around his grow and in between his plants.

The final results were what might be the most impressive indoor grow I have ever seen. His plants were ultra thick and lush and they produced very heavily from the very top to the very bottom having large thick hard heavy buds at all levels.

Yes it cost him a lot of money for his lighting but to him it was well worth it. He cut his electricity usage tremendously and that gets rid of one red flag and he cut his heat signature tremendously and that gets rid of another red flag.

To him the money spent was way more than worth keeping his freedom that was at a higher risk using the HID lighting he had been using plus he ended up with much better results.

Price does play a real factor in what many people pick for their lighting. Many people go the CFL route because they can buy them cheap at Lowes and Home Depot and WalMart and they can start with a minimum amount and as they mow another lawn or flip a few more burgers they can buy another CFL or two and in time they build up enough of them to get half decent results.

They did not do it because CFL’s are better but instead because it was all they could afford and it was take that route or not grow. So it does not make CFL’s better, it only means they are more affordable. LED’s are in the same boat, they are costly so most people do not use them and of those that do most do not use enough of them and also buy cheap low grade LED’s and they results are broadcast on sites like this and are not impressive and you very, very seldom see an LED grow like the one I followed that was done right and that had extremely impressive results.

If someone can afford high quality LED’s and can afford them in large enough numbers and if they know how to place/use them they will think they found the Holy Grail and wonder how in the world they ever survived without them and wonder why everyone else doesn’t use them too.

Like i said wait 5 yrs until they become less expensive, because unforunately BRICKTOP
Most of us here have JOBS i see lots of welders, painter, contractor, etc. People like myself who dont always
have 5k to blow on high powered specturum specific led's for 4-5 plants

Color Ratio 7:1:1 - Red, Blue, Orange is a Horrible ratio. try for somthing even Id want more blue,

Plants LOVE blue specs for Their Veg Growth
Red is For Flower,
and NO clue wat orange is good for prolly just to balance out the scale...

I have not made the switch yet myself but I do plan to. I have been thinking about moving and have been waiting to make a final decision because if I do move I will have a totally different setup and would rather buy for what I know I will be living with for years than to buy for a setup that might change in the near future.

As for the cost and how many people here work. Well that is of course a factor and I did touch on that when I used the example of how to someone earning $50k a year would see a Bugatti Vyron as being very expensive but to someone earning $20 mil a year it would not be seen as being expensive and would instead be seen as being a value for their dollar.

In my case all I can say is there are certain joys to being retired and to have owned two successful businesses and being a silent part owner in another.

It would probably take about $2,000 worth of LED light fixtures to equal the yield of a $275 400w HPS kit. The LED
might be more efficient in terms of grams/watt, but is definitely not yet cost efficient. Not only that, but LED lacks
the penetration of conventional HID lighting, so it doesn't produce the kind of dense buds as HID.

That said, I truly hope that the day comes when LED can rival HID in terms of cost and yield.
