New Light Setup Recommendations

I am looking for some recommendations on some setups. With all the new tech out in lights what do your guys recommend ? Cob,Strips, Photoboost ? I plan to do a 2x4 or 4x4 setup and was looking for a light for full cycle. I wanted some feedback on what is recommended out there. I was looking at doing a DIY COB or Strips. I know Samsung has some new strips and the PLC Photoboost look nice but never in stock. I have a friend that raves about his cobs. Thanks in advance fellow friends

Many LED people will dog HID users and vice versa.

I know what works.. CMH and HPS. Been growing good plants for years.

I just recently changed a flower room to Quantum boards and cmh all 3k temps. I am hoping that the LED and LEC live up to its fame. Its probably true that any lighting will work when properly dialied in. Enough heat for the LED and cool enough for the HID's.

With LED you need warmer temps since they lack IR. So keep the temps in the mid 80's (85 is great).

You get what you pay for with LED. Timber makes some really great lights that I consider to be the only ones on the market that truly replace a HPS.

In a 4x4 their Redwood VS is perfect.

If you wanna do a DIY I used Luminous CXM-22 90 CRI 3500K cobs and love them. Have it in my 2x4 tent for testing seeds and the results have been nothing but amazing.

in smaller areas, led is the way to go imo. cobs, strips, and boards are all viable options as long as you are getting quality diodes and applying as many watts per sq ft as you can. you should check out the led section and consider diy'ing your lights. it will save you a good bit of cash, and its nowhere near as complicated as it seems. between the lower electricity costs and the likely elimination of the need for a/c, led is probably your most efficient option.

LED is indeed a massive upgrade for growers with space limitations. Back in the day is was CFL or tubes like the phototron lol. The upfront cost for LED's that make more light with less heat is a little intimidating but when you realize that you actually need to run warmer and are producing less heat, AC is often not required and therefore more energy is saved. Quality LED will require about 0.65 real watts (not advertised watts) to every 1 watt of HPS. The real savings is in AC. Add all that up and you probably save 60% electricity overall. Combine that with not having to replace bulbs and the pay off is usually less than 2 years. The quality of the flower is amazing to boot.

If you do 2*4 I'd definitely go for strip build.
If I was in the market for more lights, I'd try cobs for a 4*4, maybe a mix of strip and cob
