New rubbermaid setup COMPLETE.

okay so after at least 35 hours of running around and tinkering with different ideas to tackle temperature, exhaust and intake issues she is complete. now i wait on seeds to arrive :-)

i previously had it set up with 2 intakes at the bottom with the third fan you now see at the bottom placed at the top where the ducting is exhausting from the lid. the pc fan worked terrible as an exhaust as evident from my temps reaching 95* once i had it trying to push through the carbon setup you see there as well (picture that ducting going straight from the lid to the filter).

after moving the third fan to an additional intake i crafted together that box fan, or home made inline duct fan i like to call it, to deal with my exhaust. it pushes the air getting sucked out of the lid of my setup through the carbon filter (and AWESOMELY as compared to my other pc fan..) for those who are interested, i removed the grates on each side of the fan before attaching the cardboard covers and duct taping all leaks. just requires unscrewing a few screws. easy enough. i used a razor blade to cut those holes in the card board after i was done sealing it.

i am going to add a 4th intake fan at the bottom next to the clear one you see in the back. with only 3 intakes right now my temps are running steady at 83* (with the exhaust fan on the lowest setting, mind you). with another intake down at the bottom i hope it will drop to around 80*. this is all while being pushed through the filter as well.

the light you see hanging in the first picture is a 4 foot fluoro setup with 2x 40watt cool white tubes (6500k daylight spectrum). i am going to use this to veg my autoflowers when they arrive. (gnomo ryders feminized and diesel ryders feminized)

after they show hairs i am going to move them into the rubbermaid conservatory.

my lighting in the tub is all CFL and all 2700k spectrum:

1x 42 watt
4x 23 watt
5x 26 watt

[ the 26w are 1570 lumens/each, the 23 are 1500 lumens/each and the i forget how many lumens the the 42w puts out but it is a big boy bulb. i am in the 13,000-15,000 total lumen output range i would say. shit makes it look like a goddamn UFO is landing in my closet anytime the door is open with all of it running ]

THAT IS FOR A TOTAL OF 264 WATTS in the container. that being said, i am happy to currently see my temps at 83* since ive seen many other threads on here pertaining to rubbermaid grows that have huge heat and exhaust issues in the 95*-105* range. i have learned from a lot of what i read and i hope this helps someone with only a box fan lying around to use as an exhaust. these box fans possess some serious horsepower. the 4" dryer duct was like $6 at wally world.

the home made inline fan has 3 speed settings as standard box fans do. all three push air perfectly fine through the filter. i blew smoke into the intakes and put my nose over the carbon filter and smelled NOTHING- bingo.

oh, and the container holding my carbon is tacked through the container to my wall using like 6 thumb tacks. i only have a couple of inches of carbon over the exhaust opening (which is covered with pantyhose so none falls through) so it isnt very heavy sitting like that even though it probably looks weird.

i also still plan on adding more foil behind the bulbs and around the top chamber. the bottom chamber is a nice cool temperature and always has been through all of my experimentation.

I'm not so sure that this going to provide the results you desire however, I'm giving +rep for the Yuengling box.

Very interesting idea seeing as how easy those box fans are to come across. Plus they only run about $10, what a deal for that strong of an exhaust fan. =)

i'm not kidding around with my odor control.... good ventilation = good yield;-)

I wish you would post up a step by step how-to on that box fan. Already gave +rep

How many CFM do you think its pushing?

thanks for the +rep. i really have no idea where i would even begin to guess in terms of how many CFM it is moving. all i can say is that during my test runs last night it was running steady at 83 degrees. the air comes through the filter very noticeably- like if you put your hand over that green exit on the wall, even with it on the lowest setting, you feel a serious breeze exiting the carbon

assembling that fan was pretty easy:

1- remove plastic grates on both sides with screwdriver
2- get some nice pieces of cardboard, lay it over one side, trim the corners to be rounded out so it fits well, duct tape securely around the entire seam
3- duct tap over any small holes in the metal core frame of the fan
4- cut holes with a blade of some kind on either and opposite sides of the fan and attach ducting.

if i can be anymore specific let me know i'll be happy to give you more details as easily as i can explain

ps- i am sure it will be pushing even more CFM after i attach the 4th intake .. really starting to come together which is rewarding after spending so much time on it.

EDIT- the following link has a fan almost identical to mine and it is rated at 2500 CFM.

autoflowers.. diesel ryders and kannabia gnomo ryders.. maybe the photoperiod bubblegummer and C-99 hybrid that attitude gave me for free at some point later in time.

I would go 20/4 and i seen that your tots are clear u might wanna cover that up light leaks are bad! light leaks can turn your gals into hermis in notime

yea i am gonna use foil to cover it more.. i havent done it yet. from what i understand autos arent really too picky about lighting. for example, if i do 20/4, are you talking about light leaks during the dark time? wouldnt it not matter since some run 24/0 start to finish with autos? correct me if i am wrong i would love to save myself a mistake

Im not sure about the autos and their light schedule but for anything else the clear box would pose a problem with light getting in during flowering during lights off time as well as losing light due to it dissipating thru the clear plastic during lights on time. Other than that it is a creative little grow box. I like the idea behind it

thanks i guess i am going to try and figure out how to best line the inside of this shit with foil. i have dropped easily $200 on this shit so far which is way beyond what i wanted to spend so before anyone tells me to go to wally world and get the mylar emergency blankets, yes i am aware. i only plan on doing autos for the time being.

question: will lining the insides with the matte side of the foil facing to the plants keep more heat inside? i ask because i just spent a solid week dicking with that setup to keep my temps down which my home made vortex fan does beautifully. will completing the foil lining raise my temps you think?

I used flat white spray paint. (IMO the foil will raise your temperatures.) If you spray paint you can use multiple coats on inside and outside to get it light tight.

*EDIT* - picked up a can for 2$ a DOME HEPOT

i am in an apartment with a room mate who just revealed to me he is no longer cool with me growing AFTER i spent 250 dollars on supplies and have seeds on the way. that being said, i will be growing anyway. we have separate rooms with huge ass walk in closets. no light will leak from my closet cracks and our bed room doors have locks so im not worried about hiding it but i have no idea where i would be able to spray paint that thing without getting paint all over stuff. i will +rep you as soon as i can rep again.. too much in the past 24 hrs. but thanks for letting me know the price, i was thinking about doing that and have seen other rubbermaids with white spray paint used for that reason. i will keep at it.

but it has been decided then? without question i need to make that thing light proof even if im doing autos?
