New seedling not growing straight up - problem?

Hi all,

Have been lurking here for the past couple months as I got my room and equipment together. Thanks for all the wonderful posts and articles and journals - what a great community. I've finally planted my kush seeds (strangely only 2 out of 8 grew to seedling) and now one of my babies is growing with a curved spine. I started with the lights (four 40 watt 4ft flor tubes) 30 cm away and i'm guessing that it is searching for light so i've moved it to 1 inch away. Also, strangely, the bottom third of the stem was white with little white barbs which i think is a root - but shouldn't that be underground?

any advice would be helpful.

thanks.

is the light directly over it? you should have germinated your seeds first. place them in some wet paper towels. usually about 2 days. then plant when tap root appears. you should also cover that cup with somthing. light can burn roots. you can just fill the cup up more if roots are showing.
