1000W Metal Halide, bottom of the bulb is about feet above the tallest plant. I really want to turn these guys loose into flowering under 1000 w HPS and a 500W LED, but I've heard that they are only big enough at this stage to only produce about a zip each. Which I find a touch low for the two bigger guys. I would like to at least get 2 zips off of each of the plants with all that lighting, so I may let them go a bit longer. I really don't want the plants to get much higher than 45 inches in flower (I will be tying as much down as possible. What do you guys think? Flower or hold off a week? I have seen people flower plants taller than these, but not nearly as bushy, and get some good returns. I'm shocked at how densely covered in leaves they are. Hoping the nugs follow suit.

Light1.jpegHere is the light, It is not shining that warm color, the camera just over adjusts like a bitch. I have no idea what kind of bulb is on there. I got the light, reflector and ballast + wiring all for 50 bucks used! So I can't complain. Especially since it is creating short, tight, healthy plants.

Is the ballast in a box? If you open the box should say what it is (but make sure its unplugged at the time of course). Gonna guess It's a 1000MH and that bulb is near the end of its usable life but like you said very hard to tell with the camera compensating.

Dude the ballast is in a decorative metal cage from probably 20 years ago. I dont think half the companies that are around now even existed then. Its a magnetic ballast, I know that much. The bulb has about 4000 hours on it according to the guy that gave it to me. He gave me the previous bulb to, which he said wasn't great, but would be better than nothing if this one went. The camera over compensates the red spectrum like hell when I take a shot in there, it looks like a damn HPS in the pic. It is a cool white for now though. I should probably think about getting a new bulb soon. I have just been funneling my dollars into everything else getting initially setup. Now that the whole shit is up and running, I can start targeting on improvements. Probably cop a new bulb this Monday.

If it has 4000 hours it's done. Def grab a new bulb as soon as you can because that bulb has probably lost over 40% of its output and no point in wasting watts :-)

i have a few questions for you??.... how close are you putting the light to the seedlings in the veg room at that height, and how often do you feed your seedlings??.... yours got so bushy and stayed so short, i need your help i guess lol

Yeah, definitely get a new bulb dude, you will thank yourself!! My 1000W MH, it's on its second day, and from working in the grow room yesterday I'm sittin right now in class SUNBURNT AS FUCK. Or lamp-burnt, I guess... hmm.... Well that and when I leave that room, nothing looks right, it looks like nighttime during the day. Yeah, it's that fucking strong. You shouldn't even really be able to take a picture of it while it's on, it should kill your eyes and your camera.

Nonetheless, recognize that the sunburn I am now covered with is a result of UVB rays, ultraviolet, and that means way, way nicer growth.

Finally got those 2x 240w flower panels from gotham, theyre pretty sick. Let me know how your liking that 500w, might sell my 300 and get one or the new 600w if you think its worth it.

UPDATES!!

NYPD is flowering pretty well, started to see some hairs in (or something that isn't leaves) after the 5th of flowering. I have no idea whether or not that is slow, fast or average. The plants showed a touch of stress going from 18/6 to 12/12. They continue to grow like all hell. I am very pleased with doing the LST, as they have a ton of budding site through out the plant, although I will hopefully be cursing that decision when I have a pair of scissors in my hand come feburary. Got some shots of the flowering set up to explain it a touch better.

As for the Jock Horror and the Wonder Woman, the wonder woman continues to dominate in the growth area. I got a 4 main cola topping going on my largest WW, and topped a JH and another WW for 2 main colas. I will probably top all of the plants when they get big enough, and start a nasty LST 10 days before flower.
