Newbie problems with clones

Hey everyone I have always come to this forum to look for info about growing. I finally decided to sign up and learn a lot more than I already know.

I was just wondering why my (attempted) clones are looking droopy and unhealthy. They feel soft and out of life.

Method:

Got clippings from the bottom of my fathers plant.

Cut 45deg angle on the stem.

Cut 1/4 of an inch up the stem with a razor blade.

Dipped stem in cloning gel for about 10 seconds.

Put it in some potting mix.

Chucked a few nutrients pebbles on the top of the soil.

Put them on window sill for a few hours.

PLANT I GOT THE "CLONES" OFF (one on the right)

Apparently it's going to grow around a pound on it.

As I said, I am a massive newbie to this, all tips are appreciated!

first thing i'll say is that clones do not need nutrients! they do not even have roots.

second, putting them on a window sill carries two concerns: too much light and too much air!

clones only need enough light to stay alive, no more. any excess light will cause too much transpiration. without roots, they can not handle excessive transpiration!

that is why too much air circulation too soon is also fatal to clones. they simply can not replace the moisture they are losing through transpiration.

most people prefer an inert medium for cloning, but i have seen it work in soil.

your quickest, easiest fix is to cut the bottoms off some 2 or 3 liter bottles and place them over the clones to trap moisture around them, at least for a few days. gradually wean them off their humidity domes.

in the future, rooting plugs and a humidity dome are cheap!

Thank you for all of the good information! Will be sure to find a quick fix to humidify them asap!

So put a plastic bag over the clones to humidify them? It sounds like it would work better than the bottle kinda. The bottle is a bit small for the leaves, they are a little squished in the bottle.
that's fine, they'll bounce right back after you remove the bottle. you can find a way to wrap a plastic bag around it like @Dr.Pecker said. just get creative, you need to keep them from breathing themselves to death for now.

Gatorade bongs. That's funny. I can make a pop bottle water bong.
Every man and his dog in Australia knows how to make one ;)

Hey guys, I put all 4 clones into a big pot and wrapped the whole pot in a couple of plastic bags. It is sitting in my room with a little bit of light, that okay? Do I need to give them water all the time? If not, when should I feed them

i keep about 20 watts of CFL on my clones until they root, then i step up the light.

don't drown the things. keep the soil moist until they root. after their roots establish and they start filling up your soil you can feed them.

Thank you, I will be putting them outside to grow when they get roots

Fresh clones always get droopy they'll stand back up in a day or two. Just keep the soil moist not saturated. Don't be disappointed if you don't get that pound.

Yea my father is a great grower but I don't feel comfortable talking to him about it yet. So far everyone on these forums is awesome!

I did some research and found out I could get around 1-2 OZ from a plant. My father said that's bullshit, he gets around 1-2 Pounds. So I am looking forward to this :D

Yea I will not be disappointed :) This is a first time experiment for me, it's all about learning from here on.
