Newbie questions

Hiya!
I'm attempting to grow my first plant and have a few questions.. I planted my seed in a cup and used sunlight for about a week but my sprout started to get too long so yesterday I brought it indoors and I replanted it in a bigger pot. I made my own set-up in a small cabinet space with foiled walls to reflect light. I also added two 60watt soft white clf bulbs and I'm keeping them on 18hrs/6hrs off.. Does the plant look ok to be about a week old? (I will be adding more dirt for the stem soon I just ran out).. Is my set-up ok? Do I need to keep the door open for so long to add air flow or add a fan? Do I have the right lighting and are my lights too close? Will I need to add more lights once the plant gets bigger or is what I have ok as long as I raise the lights as the plant grows? How often do I need to water it and how much? Also when do I start feeding?

Thanks!!

Your going to need a daylight blub 6000k or 65000k that's the temp color. Cfl spirals u can get like 6inches away from the plant use ur back hand if it's to hot for u then it's to close for the girl. Plant will feed it's self for up to 2wk I'd top dress a lil worm castings in ur pots. Ur definitely going to need more lights if u plan to keep it inside. I just bought my first LED and love it. Starting off in solo cups is fine I just transplanted mine after 2 wks into a bigger pot. You got any pics

Yea sorry I saw that afterwards. U definitely need a different color light that looks like flower color 3500k. What are you using for soil?

I would definitely feed it some worm castings or make your own compost tea at some point. Theres a few threads about it. If that's just coco there is no nuits in the soil. Don't water to heavy. I personally prefer to wait to the last possible time. Do u have a humidity meter? You should try to keep your humidity around 60+ for good growth in my experience

I don't have a humidity meter or humidifier in there yet but I will add one soon and I plan to do everything indoors

You can Veg and Flower with cfl spirals but it can be a pain with so many lights if u got a big plant. Definitely keep it at 18-6 for your timer. They do sell 150w 200w cfl lights on ebay n amazon if your going that route.20170502_231806_1493781542905.jpgmy ladies right now 2 1/2 wks under a 600w led in my closet

They're a beauty I can't wait until mine starts looking like that. I will make adjustments soon for better lighting and temp control and add some worm castings. Thanks for the advice on getting me started. This is my first time at attempting to grow so I've been doing a lot of research. But there are so many methods I want to make sure I'm following a dependable one that's fairly simple and budget friendly.. I only had one seed to start with though so I just hope it's a female lol if not I will have to start over once I get more seeds.. How long have you been growing?

I'm doing my first real grow now that's it's legal in my state. I've growing a few before with cfl spirals. I've done a lot of research as well. It's trial and error. I just like to lend a hand. I've always had a green thumb. I'm definitely not the most experienced person on this site by far. I'm growing in super soil it's got everything you need in it most u have to do is top dress. I hate messing with nuits.

Would it be enough nutrients if I just added the castings without the tea compost or should I change the soil

From the pic it looks like he's running 100% coir. Probably not a good idea to treat coco like soil.
Since you've already started the plant, I'd stick with coco and run it like DTW hydro. You won't need to water as often since you don't have any extra aeration (perlite, pumice, etc) mixed with the coco.
If you want to go with a simple solution, Fox Farm Ocean Forest (FFOF) soil is a good option for beginners. It will get your plant off to a good start and you can transition to synthetic nutes for flower. Or you can stay organic and top dress + nute teas. Or you can use Fox Farm bottled nutes, which are compatible with their soils and they have a schedule that takes out most of the guess work.
If I were you, I wouldn't change a thing. Just run it like DTW (drain to waste) coco with dyna gro foliage pro + GH cali magic (cal-mag).
But I've got a few grows under my belt. If you aren't into measuring PPM and ph, organic soil is the easiest. :eyesmoke:

See how it does over the next couple days its still very young. Idk if it's to late to change the soil you can definitely top dress with castings that will help Id wait a few days tho i forgot how young it was. But your going to need nuits forsure just growing in coco or regular soil. Not so much now but when they get bigger. Next time grab something like fox farm ocean forest or happy frog soil n mix it with more coco fiber for seedlings. Some people say ocean forest is to hot for seedlings thats why i dilute it with coco or a soiless medium. That's what my plants are currently in.My super soil is for when I transplant outside in 3wks. Humidity plays a big role too if it's low your going to have slow growth.

I though he was going to transplant into soil that's why I was saying that. I don't think he ment to get just coco but I could be wrong. Good post!!

I'll try leaving it in what it's in for now. When I add nuits will this stuff that I have laying around for my other plants work (pic posted) or should I get some Cal-mag.. or? Also when I add liquid nuits will I still need the worm castings as well?

The N-P-K ratio seems right for vegging, but I think it really depends on a few factors. The "water insoluable nitrogen" may build up in your soil, changing the pH and creating nutrient lockup. I recommend heading to a hydroponic store if you have one close by and picking up a nutrients bundle. It could cost you about $50 for a vegging setup and $50 for flowering, but nutrients are a huge deciding factor of your end result (yield), and depending on how many plants you're growing at one time, the nutrients could last you a few crops!

I am only growing one plant for now but plan to maybe grow more in the future if this one is a success. There are no hydro stores near by so I'd have to get my nuits from Walmart or Lowes or a local hardware store. I am looking for a method that is fairly simple and budget friendly. Will I still need to add worm castings after I add the liquid nutrients or will the nuits be enough?

nice start for a cfl grow

the way you have your bulbs is ok, just need to look for the same wattage but look on the box for "daylight" its gonna be a tad bright a more to the blue spectrum of light, 2 is great for vegging a single plant...btw

with my grow i didn't use any nutes except for what i put in the soil itself, just had to make a good water timing..

if you need a picture of what mine looked like, i can produce one for you

still have my baby pictures...lmao..that sounds so bad
