Yep.. its a good thing its going to miss us, because if it were to make it through the Earths atmosphere without breaking apart too much and without disentagrating.. and if it then were to hit a major U.S. state or any other country for that matter... there would be many deaths from it.

This, I think.. is the closest an Asteroid has ever come to actually hitting Earth. Scary if you really sit and think about it. Who knows, maybe next time we won't be as lucky. That's the thing about life my friends.. your never guaranteed tomorrow. ;)

Anyhow, here's the link to the story: [LINK] - http://www.space.com/12067-asteroid-2011-md-close-earth-flyby-june-27.html

This was known about beforehand though as far as a year ago I think.

And its not just asteroids either lol Pulsars may give us a good blast of rads and destroy the ozone, volcanos may erupt, tsunamis, hurricanes etc etc

To be honest if there were more people dying there would be more people appreciating what they got in life. We all have our asses in comfort moaning about pointless shit all the time lol

Yeah? Well, my bad.. I had just heard about this one as of this morning on the national news.

I 100% agree with your last statement btw. ;)

You hit the bulls-eye on that one. Nicely put.

peace.

Now lets analyze this a bit. They have been searching for near miss asteroids constantly. Here we have an asteroid the size of a tour bus that they just discovered of June 22, so if it had been a direct hit we would have had a whole 5 days to prepare.

Even if the asteroid were to enter Earth's atmosphere, it likely wouldn't reach the surface, they added.
Pulled that straight from the article. It's only the size of a bus. About 10 meters. It'd likely disintegrate before it got close to impact and if anything did hit it'd be minimal damage because it'd be so small from atmospheric damage. Still an interesting read though! Thanks for sharing.
