Nirvana NL Mogul CFL Bulb Grow

Second DWC grow... First was a bagseed learning experience and I yanked the plants once I got my Nirvana Fem'd Northern Lights seeds. I've read so many great things about how well this strain does in indoor hydro setups, I'm eager to see what kind of results I get. Must say I was impressed with the 100% germ rate on the two I papertoweled. They cracked in under 24hrs!

I plan on vegging for about 4 weeks and LSTin' both plants to maximize light/bud ratio. I'm running a 19-5 light on them now. I had them on 24hr for the first couple days and I see no difference so i figured I'd save the little $$.

RDWC setup with two coolers. I live in a warm climate and temp was a definite concern. It's easy to just plop a frozen gallon jug in the sump rez and maintain my 65F all day. I'm using two 100g+ aquarium air pumps connected to 4 ceramic airstones. A 60gph pump in the rez circulates everything around from cooler to cooler and makes it easy for me do any dosing/jug changes. I keep the PH 5.5-6.3 but it's been stable at 5.9 for the past two days.

Using two 6500k 125w Mogul CFLs for veg. I'm only running one right now but will be dropping the second one vertically down once I see the need. I have a huge 250w 2700k for flower and I'll be adding some mid range (household 65w probably) CFLs at specific sites that need it.

I'm using Cal-Mag plus in my R.O. water and the Fox Farm Trio for nutes at about .5 of their hydro schedule right now. PPMs are running about 350 on a hanna meter.

I'll be covering the walls once the lights move up a bit more with the same material I used on the lid of the cooler. The room temp is 82F daytime and about 75F night with ~60% humidity.

Let me know what you guys think!!

Thanks bro much appreciated! I'm hoping to learn more this grow and really get everything dialed in before I step it up at all # wise.

So far so good... Figured I'd put up some more pics of the lighting I'll be using through the grow. There's a lighter in the pics for scale. These things r fckn big!

001.jpg
23w (for scale. I'll be adding 65w in the reflectors below for flowering)
125w 6500k (I have two of these)
250w 2700k

003.jpg
These will hold supplemental lighting so I can hit prime budsites)

11 days from seed under one of the 125w 6500ks in the reflector.

1 week from seed crackin'

I am doing my experimenting on bag-seed practicing my growing chops and my grow box. I have also been experimenting with hydroponics. I have an outdoor vegetable garden with a dwc and an indoor (garage) ebb and flow system for other vegetables. I would like to use a standard dwc for my indoor cab grow so I will sub to yours and watch you go. +rep

OK so this morning I check my levels like normal and the PH dropped from 5.9 to 4.6 overnight?!?!? Couple of the tips of the first set of leaves showed a bit of stress too so I went ahead and did a 50% flush and dropped the PPMs a bit. The RO water has a little higher PH so it leveled it back to 5.9 adding the new batch. Hopefully these swings don't become a regular thing!

From what I read the nute mix may have been a bit too rich possibly? I was at about 475PPM and dropped it to about 350 now.

OK so the PH swings were my fckn crappy Pen going out on me. I ordered a probe style one that way I don't have to worry about cleansing and storing solutions and crap. I like the temp probe style one I'm using now and I think it'll be easier to just push a on button to monitor it instead of swishing a pen around. This was my 3rd pen cause I keep trying out the cheapos (even this probe one was too cheap imo $35 ebay). Don't... Just spend the $ and get a nice one, I'm going to upgrade again once I have some change to throw at a all in one probe but they run about $200-$250 from what I've seen, so gonna have to try and convince the gf on that one lol.

Anyone else have pens crap out on them frequently?
I'm sure I wasn't properly maintaining mine so that's why they shit on me. Looks like this style is more of a calibrate and leave alone so I'm hoping I have better results.

Thankfully I had some PH test strips as backups and will just use those to check for swings until the new one comes.

They are still coming along...

Dense growth in the past two days... everything still going well!! Prob another 2 days and I'll start LSTing them sideways. Waiting on that new ph meter but the strips are gettin' the job done. Hopefully gets here by the end of the week when I do a rez change.

Went ahead and tied them down today. Just used some twist ties hooked on the edge of the netpots. I plan on just growing them both sideways for another 1.5/2 weeks then toss them into 12/12. As fast as they have been progressing I wanted to make sure I had a jump on those lower nodes getting some height now.

16 days from germ now

Roots look whiter in person lol I think the white from the cooler is making them look worse than they are. Rez never goes above 70F. They've really started taking off!

Ok so I couldn't resist... since both I germed went so easily I decided to germ another and throw in a short veg soil grow along side these two hydro girls. This one won't get as much veg time more just a supplemental plant to go along side since I had room. I'll prob just let this soil one go without any major LST or topping and throw it into flower same time as these girls so the yield will not be comparable as she'll be about 18 days behind the other two. I'm more just curious the taste report between the two.

042.jpg
Grabbed a couple 1 gallon perfect pots to go with these - 30/70 Perlite/FFOF ratio drains well, im excited! (only going to run one soil plant right now, may start another once these NLs are finishing)

044.jpg
Other two still going stong...

Just tied them down again. should've gotten a pic before... they grew more than it looks since I just squashed them sideways again and pushed all the fan leaves down. Fckn Bushes! lol

001.jpg
Still waitin on my new ph meter to get here before I do a flush and up the nutes a bit. Only running 275PPM right now (dropped it from the 400 I had before some of the lower leaves showed some stress)

004.jpg
Soil is poppin' up now! Took a bit longer as I germed it directly in the soil instead of the paper towel method which usually pops em in 24 hrs for me. Either way I'm eager to see how this one progresses with no LST.

21 days from seed, so far still coming along nicely and gaining momentum, not sure how big I'm going to let them go but they def still need another week at least in veg to get any decent yield.
006.jpg

Again the white from the cooler does these roots no justice lol, theres a lot more root mass under the water also thats tangling along my airlines.
