Noob LED Grow Room Questions And Room Setup Details

IMG_20120514_201313.jpg

10.8 x 8 and 8 foot tall :leaf: room. But i will only be growing in a small portion due to my single light. I will continue to post pics and a Autocad drawing of the room soon!

As you can see this room is just a shell, The plan is to remove everything from the walls and panda plastic the entire room and black out the window.
I will be growing with LED lights and soil, hopefully advancing to coco in the future. Im looking for all the help I can get being a n00b Thank you in advance!!!!

So in my room I will have;
1, BlackStar 500watt LED Panel
1, 12K BTU Wall AC Unit
2, Fans
5 RTF plants once the room is complete.

wanna buy a couple more (3 if you like ) blackstar 500? I found they're great for veg. That's why I'll be keeping two of them.
1 blackstar 500 has a coverage of 3by4 foot.

def with the AC supplement the LED with a lower wattage HID , or higher wattage if you can vent and run the ac plus pay the power bill. I just finished up a grow under 2 bs500 and where it came out not a total loss it just isn't pretty at all, I really haven't even looked at much but the top of the canopy, there is very little canopy penetration. supplement with a 400 watt hps in flower, you can even make it a dimmable one and run it at 50 percent or so, this is what I'm gonna do next time I think.

actually scratch that now that I think about it, that AC will lead to odor in the exhaust, if that isn't a problem then it should be good.

You're gonna have to grow a certain way with just one panel, scrog or a small sog. That or a heavily lst'd plant, something you can keep a nice even canopy. and don't forget the cal/mag supplement even if you aren't using RO water.
I think I was reading somewhere that the bs500 is good for a 2by3 foot coverage in flower but keeping a nice even canopy is gonna be important. I don't know what your expectations are but my first grow with the bs500s left me scratching my head a lot. You've def gotta change your style of growing if you've not been growing under LED.

This is too much room for this led.You want to concentrate the light (reflect) into a ~ 2 X 3 space. Lowes/HD sells 4 X 8 insulated foam boards. They will cut for you, too.

I think from what I have read most LED grows go bad due to lack of knowledge on the LEDs coverage, wattage, and actual power running the panel.

Clarification.. This is a test grow in this "new" environment and with these LED lights, so i am starting small and plan to grow in only a small portion of the room. 4 maybe 5 plants and also enclose the area with a reflective wall around the plants of some kind not sure yet?

SCROG and SOG do sound interesting and after additional research I might try it out.

dude I just finished up two plants under 2 bs 500 in a 4by4 tent, you're gonna wanna do sog IF you plan on mutliple plants. If not expect at the very most to fill a 2 by 3 screen with one plant( although I've never done scrog this seems reasonable).
My results, I may as well trash the LED tent because it came out weak(not a total loss but very very weak for 600+ actual watts). first time with LED of course maybe had something to do with it, I'll probably try one plant under one panel in the tent next time and I'll probably supplement with low wattage HID, in that case I'll probably just spread the bitch out real nicely. These lights do veg very nicely on their own though.

gonna give it one last chance in hydro, I'll scale it down to one bs 500 on one plant without supplementing with any other source of light. I hear there's a learning curve on LED growing and I def saw strange shit I've never really seen before, the comparison under HID came out a lot better but still this grow had issues.

Small update on the rooms progress as well as the first grow. When the 6 plants were received they were already in flower but deprived of water and light for a few days, pretty much rescued from a closed down operation. After the plants were placed in the room into the second week whiteflies became a problem and one of the plants wilted to death from the bug attack or over watering :(
so ladybugs were introduced along with some lacewings but only the ladybugs appear to have survived. The 5 plants are turning out ok and some of the top buds have been cut and are curing, the lights have been lowered to allow the next bunch to puff up.

The next grow will be documented!

I sure like the simplicity of your room, looks really well picked up after. I am about ready to give up on led's myself.
