hello stupid question but bugging me I have a poor man light setup ima use for a experiment nothing serious but how do u calculate how many watts ur setup is I got a 6 port power cord and 4 CFL bulbs equivalent to 60w each bulb and one 100w equivalent.. The 60s are 5000k and the one 100w is 2700k.. If u can and wanna have some fun and help others plus myself on my other forum its a way to show u can grow without having superior equipment.. Even not having a good box period.. Basically call it anyone poor man grow.. Game/project thread called - Game: Grind for weight

I dont understand the question 4x60 =240w plus 100w = 340watts k means kilo or 10^3 but you dont make sense reported for spam

Sneex isn't using K as Kilo meaning 1000 of anything, or rather he is but it is degrees in kelvin. Sneex was talking about lighting, light spectrum specifically.
The K Sneex is talking about is the Kelvin light scale. Pretty sure of it because I understood everything he said and that is the only reference to K I see anywhere in what he said. What he said is definatly not spam either.

You add up the actual total watts of your CFL bulbs not the equivalent.
I don't know what the actual watts of your bulbs are, so I'll take a guess to make an example.
If the actual watts are say 26 watts and the bulbs are equivalent to 60 watts and you have four of them, then you would calculate how many watts your setup has by multiplying the actual watts 26 x 4 = 104 + ? (whatever that 100 watt equivalent wattage actually is, assuming 45 actual watts) = total watts 149. It looks like you intend to bloom with that setup, good luck with that.

Assuming I actually understand his question correctly then please allow me to translate and make it easier to understand the question.

Hello, ignorant question here because I am not well informed yet. This question has been bothering me. I have a poor man's light setup I'm going to use for an experiment nothing too serious, but how do you calculate how many watts your setup is when using CFL's? Do I need to add up the actual watts or the equivalent? I have a 6 port power cord and 4 CFL bulbs they are equivalent to 60 watts each and I also have one that is 100 watts equivalent. The 60 watt equivalent bulbs are more in the blue spectrum 5000k, and the single 100 watt equivalent is a 2700k spectrum bulb. If you can and want to have some fun and help others plus myself on my other thread here on RIU it's a way to show that you can grow without having superior equipment. Not even having a good grow box to work with. Basically call it, anyone can do it poor man's grow. You can find it under, Grow Room Design & Setup, thread called - Game:Grind for weight!!

lol what I was asking was when ppl are talking about watts if it was the equivalent.or if they were doing the normal watts not equivalent.. So basically u answered that thank you for that.. Next question is do u know how much watts this cord should be able to handle without fire lol.. Also was more or less trying to get one set up for full cycle off that 6 plug in and tryna figur out what to use for a box and dimensions are best for the setup.. The other thread is a thread I wanna build this box in com help me there ppl are just giving smart remarks when I'm just being sarcastic talking about doing it cheap but good.. Appreciate ur time, cheers

There is a way to calculate how many watts you need for your space, but you would need to decide on how big your space is first. I suppose you could add up your watts and then you would know how big of a space you can go up to as well. I've seen what the recommended watts per square foot is change over the years, not really to sure what the common consensus is these days. I will just make something up and call it 50 watts to the square foot. Also it is square foot because you only have to calculate for the floor space being covered by light, or the light foot print I suppose. You don't need to calculate for the cubic foot of the grow box, that would be more so for ventilation or Co2. So lets say you go small and have a 2 foot x 2 foot space that is 3 feet tall and you want 50 watts to the square foot. Then you would multiply 2 x 2 = 4 and then multiply 4 x 50 watt's = 200 watts for the space. I might not have the formula correct and as I said before I don't know what the recommended wattage is. At one point I recall it was 35 watts but that was years ago. Whatever the recommended watts actually is and whatever you have to work with I think this should give you an idea of what you need. If it was 35 watts to the square foot then 2' x 2' = 4' square feet x 35 watts per square foot = needing, 140 watts for the space. I think that is right.
