noob question???

why do i need a digital ballast with my 1000 watter? what purpose does the digital ballast serve? answer will be greatly appreciated.

Analog or digital will do but yes, you will need a ballast. Ballasts convert/amplify your wall power into voltage that the bulb can use.

since the digital ballasts arent configured to the bulb types yet, they will burn old a bulb faster than an old magnetic type ballast. but the savings you get from a digital ballast may be worth the new bulb in the long run, i run 2 magnetic ballasts and love them and they are easy to rebuild as well.

Put it this way, your old school ballasts are more mechanical than digital, so they tend to last longer. I've seen many digitals returned to the shop way before their old-school counterparts.

However, what they say is true, you will get some savings from the digital.

To answer your question, you HAVE to have a ballast, you don't necessarily HAVE TO HAVE a digital one.

Peace,

K
