Northern Lights Grow - From clone CFL

Hello everyone,

My name is Niko and I am here today to share with you folks my grow.

To start with some background information... The strain is Nirvana's NL and I had started a plant back in April, it was outside and due to heat grew pretty horribly. So on August 19th I had it inside and was planning to try to nourish it back to health but before I knew it my cat knocked it over! SO in quick decision mode, I ran up to the store and picked up the necessary items to clone - cloning dome, rooting hormone, rooting cubes, and finally lights.

After carefully taking all the clones I could, I put the seven clones in the cubes with the rooting hormone and water under the light 24hrs a day. Just after 7 days.. the clones where ready to transplant!

I placed the clones in a homemade flood n drain setup being flooded for 15 mins every three hours under 24 hour light.

The lights I started out with where four 42w 2700k and one 68w 2700k CFL. I know that more blue light is better, but for expense wise, I chose to keep it simple hehe.

I used expanded clay pellets as the median because it allows enough air for many feedings(endless nutes, water, and air seem to work well)

I am starting this journal now at the beginning of flowering and the plants are now a little over 5 weeks old, 2 days into flowering.

I'll post pictures of each week and provide more pictures as it develops now.

Give me feedback please! :]

Update: Day 6

So today when I opened the cabinet after the lights came on and they grew almost two inches since yesterday and touching the bulbs. Not much damage though. I did some trimming to really open up underneath the canopy and then took pictures. Plenty of pre-flowers too! :weed:

Very nice Niko
good recovery taking the clones.
I am in week 4 of flowering one Nirvana NL. She is in Hempy with CRF ferts. Had bad germination problems with the first 5 seeds. and of the other 5 only one was female. Took a sample of one of the males and it was pretty good. Then a few days ago sampled the lady. So far so good.
This is my first grow besides bag seeds. I am looking forward to some top notch smoke.
Have you grown NL before? I want a really relaxing smoke. I suffer from anxiety and a lot of body pains.
I am awaiting Nirvana fem, Papaya and Superskunk ordered last week for next grow.

Thanks! And this is my first time growing this strain of NL but I have done my research and am very excited for this smoke. I have heard many good things.. among them being that it is great for pain and relaxation.
I'd love to see that next grow as well :]

I'll actually be uploading some pictures later today, so stay tuned!

I have never even smoked NL before. Not much grade A smoke around here. Few years back something called Kyber was around that was some of the best bud I ever smoked. I think some guy just grew something and gave it that name, it's a valley between Pak and Afg, in the Kush region. I have yet to find it listed in any seed company or strain lists. But touching the NL buds and smelling them reminds me of that smell a little.

Sorry to everyone who is following, I have been busy lately and it's been hard to find time! I will most definitely try harder to update more often from now on.

Here they are at day 22...

Still not much signs of smell unless you tickle your nose with pistils but plenty of trichomes :weed:

Well I can tell you that if you are growing her correctly, you are gonna be in for a treat! :] I hope it all works out. How is the smell for you so far?

Hardly any smell at all in the room, and I have a pretty good nose. But after touching the plants and smelling my fingers, it's a FANTASTIC smell.
A week ago we did LST to open her up and expose as many bud sites as possible. My fingers were so sticky when done, and I couldn't stop smelling my fingers and saying "aahhhhh"
I smoked really heavy in the 70's and early 80's, then had to stop in 82 for drug tests at work. Lost that job in 2000. The first thing I did was buy a 1/4 oz. I was amazed at how good the average weed had become. 2 hits once in a while is all I did or even needed. Now that I am smoking a little more regular, I still only take 2 tokes, but more than once a day, and not every day. All the stuff around is good, just not great.
I am hoping to have the best bud in town pretty soon. Won't sell any at all. What ever comes off of this one plant (hopefully a few oz's) will be purely head stash. Other than turning a few friends on to a bud or two of course.

Vegged for 6 weeks, and now into 4+ weeks flowering. Would have been a good candidate for some scrog. To late for that, that's why we did the LST.
I am tempted to try 12/12 from start next time. I have seen some awesome grows on some journals doing that.

Update: Day 27...

Really starting to fill out! Recently I have been doing some LST to get them to fill the canopy better and it helped some with the heat surprisingly. The temps haven't been above 85 F but I want to get it down to a constant 80 F during the light phase. Doubt it will effect much though :bigjoint:

! I did however have one small issue... I hope it's small. I filled the empty space in the flood tub where the roots are with balloons filled with water. After coming back from a couple day trip, two had lost most of their water and one was popped. The point is that they released some latex or cornstarch(whatever it is that coats the inside of the balloons) in the water and I'm not sure what effect it will have on the plants. No signs of illness have shown however.

Input would be greatly appreciated :]
