not enough light? Slow start?

Does this look like the normal size of a 1 1/2 week old plant? It is only being lighted by two 100 watt white bulbs:-|

Oh and hello all:blsmoke:

You seem to be using incandescent lights rather than fluorescent. You need to invest in some compact fluorescents at least three 27w ones, otherwise your plant will continue to stretch and produce little bud.

I have a 15 watt fluor. from a 20 gallon aquarium but felt it wouldn't be anywhere near strong enough. Would they benefit from it if I were to toss it on them as well?

Also, is lighting the only cause for the stretching seen in the pic? Notice anything else?

I should mention I'm just messing around so I'd rather not run out and buy lights. Will what I mentioned suffice? I was thinking top at 1 1/2-2' But then again, I know nothing lol

thats way too stretched you need to get some cfls and put them 2 inches (at the most) form the top of your plant..

like I said, I'm not really that dedicated enough to go out and buy bulbs just yet.

I have a 55 gallon aquarium I could turn into some sort of grow box. If I used(already have some) foil lined insulated sheets(1/4", 8'x4') and cut them to place around the tank. Lined the bottom with foil or something. Would this help me out at all if I were to start over? Afterall, wouldn't this bring in more light being as it's "focused" in more?

Another thing. The stretched plant. Say I let it go and it's female. would this be an ok mother to get clones from or no?

You can get three 27w CFLs at home depot for 9 bucks. Growing under incandescents just won't produce anything really worth smoking, it will grow but it will be very tall and stretched, grow very slowly and produce virtually nothing. The 15w fluoro is much better but still not enough light, marijuana requires lots of light.

You don't want to spend three months growing the plant be extremely disappointed with the results.

Foil isn't a great reflector, it can create hot spots that burn leaves, a better choice is $1 rolls of shiny mylar wrapping paper from the dollar store, or flat white painted walls. If it does turn out to be a female you can take clones from it but you'll want to do it in the veg state.

Depends on how tall it is and what method you plan on growing. You definitely want a confined area with some light reflection. Check out the growfaq at the top of the page for some ideas.

and, that plant doesn't look unhealthy, just stretched to hell and back... repot it up to the cotyledons (little round bean leaves)and it will do just fine.

get cfl's pronto; they are cheap, and mandatory if you want to do this with any success at all. hid's are best, flouros are next in line.

as for the fish tank; unless you are going to do a 55g dwc, scrap that idea; trust me, a closet or cabinet will make you much happier, and will give you less headaches.

glass doesn't allow good air flow, and heat cannot pass through it.

nope, just be VERY gentle, you should have no probs. and don't over saturate the new soil, or the stem might rot before it has a chance to sprout roots.

Transplanted today into a 3-4 gallon bucket. Not sure exactly but it is shorter than a 5 galloin lol

I should be grabbing some lights this weekend

keep your cfl's no further than six inches away, to keep further stretching to a minimum.

lowes has four packs of 23w for around ten bucks...

and those would be sufficient enough? Thanks for answering my posts lol

What all can I do besides getting better lights and transplanting(which I did and buried up to where you said to)? Will it continue on it's path of stretching? Can I top it slow the process?

more light=less stretch; if you get four cfl's to place right on top of it, your node spacing will be as tight as ebenezer scrooge.
