Nute Lock out? Please Help

Hi

I have been vegging for about 5 weeks and the plants at the bottom working its way up a bit, leaves started to look like this then fall off and die. is it a salt build up or nute lock out due to ph issues??? please any advice would be great. i have been flushing at a qtr strength for only a water or two. thanks

are you in hydro or soil? whats your ph/ppm? what nutes are you using? what lights? how close are the lights?

if its salt build up i would flush, and at the end of the flush hit it with a low nute solution (250-300ppms). if its a ph issue just water until ph is in range.

Unless you have not been feeding your plant, it has to be lockout that is doing most of the damage.
The cause of the lockout is what you need to find out.

The brown edges and brown spots look like K defficiency/lockout. Some N too.

if it is salt build up flush with some FF sledge hammer. Always did the trick for me. the sledge hammer will help remove salts and help the plant if it is nutrient locked. Also are you adding any benne's with your nutrient solution? like a tea or something like that? That deff looks like the beginning of nutrient lock to be honest... but more info would be great.

Thanks!

from the pics it definitely looks like a ph imbalance which caused the lockouts. you definitely have a phosphorous issue which locks out cal/mag and like heartland stated k as well. flush with ph water and at the end of the flush give it a low nute solution like i stated in my first post.

Hi sorry for the lagg
I am using rock wool cubes and they are sitting on hydroton. I noticed the plants started looking funny and thought it could be a salt build up or a ph imbalance. I flushed a few times with quarter strength nute solution and they still look the same.

I am using ro water- A & B, CAL MAG, a small amount of VITAMAX PLUS and FULVIC ACID (Fullpower)
ph at 5.7
ppm 500

this is my 3rd grow with Rock wool I have used the same nutes but this is the 1st time I have had this issue. my run off was high 750 ppm and 6.5 ph.

how can i fix this?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I am interested to hear what the problem is as well. I have also been experiencing similar issues. After doing much research and experiencing alot of frustration with misdiagnosis', I decided to flush them and see if it is indeed nutrient lockout. We will see because I only flushed 1 plant (1 of the worst) and if it recovers, I will treat the rest. Here are some pics of my plant problems.

dude flushed them things asap. looks like ph is out of range and not taking in cal/mag or just isn't getting enough of it or possibly too much of it (over ferting). check runoff and you'll will no which possibility it is once you get the reading.

I did flush them last night after my post and the EC was about 1.4 from the runoff; they have been getting nutrients at 1.6 E, is this alright or not? Also, the pH was a little higher then the RO water that went through. Any input?

i'm currently battling similar things. i'd say measure your run-off ph. Then take the ph you want measure the difference between the two and set your ph at that difference below what you are aiming for... so if you want a ph of 5.8 like most do in hydroton and your run off is 6.4 then you should adjust your res to 5.2. that way you bring down your average ph in your medium and reduce the lock out. also make sure you aren't water too much and cause a lock out that way. Cheers!

It looks to me like a severe salt build up, i have had this happen to me when growing in rockwool and feeding too much. i would say feed at quarter to half strength of what you have been feeding after you've flushed with plain R/O water twice in a week(depending on plant size&needs), ive found that they do better when fed small amounts, especially after being schocked like yours has been. also a Conductivity of .5 is ideal, runoff should be around .8 and pH of runoff should be about 6. a low amount of EC is reqiured just so the pH does not baloon like it does when there is no EC at all. good luck, Sir!
