Americans learned last year that President Obama discards campaign promises like most people discard used Kleenex. Among the pledges he cast aside were reducing the deficit, reining in federal spending, not allowing lobbyists to work in his administration, increasing taxes only on those who make more than $250,000, and opposing "government-run health care" because it is "extreme.":fire::fire:

It doesn't matter. He knew from the start he wouldn't be running for re-election.

Maybe he is a political torpedo.
Get in office get the radical progressive agenda instituted.
Get tossed after 4 years, damage done.
Republicans get in office make a big show of how they are gonna fix everything.
Shuffle some papers, debate and talk.
Some small changes are made.
But the systems and control mechinisms will still be in place.
Americans, thankful for the republicans doing something, anything, keep them in office.
Until Republican Fatique sets in again, do to thier own radical agenda.
Rince lather repeat.

BTW campaign promices mean jack.
Read my lips "NO NEW TAXES."
HAHAHA!!!

Everything that is being done can be reversed. But I think your point is correct - this was to be a drive-by attempt to shove America hard to the left. Obviously it isn't working because the strategists are morons.

I'm stunned at the political blunder we have just seen. First he plans a tax he promised not to do, then when unions complain he exempts them. That is going to backfire so bad. How could they be stupid enough to think they could sell that? On top of the bribes for votes given to Nebraska and Louisiana? LOL.

90 Billion tax on banks??

Who is going to pay for that? You and me the little people. Banks are just going to charge us more to pay the 90 Billion to the Government.

Remember "Trickle-down" economics ? .. as it refers to the greater wealth and standard of living for all based on lower taxes at the top.
Somehow there is a parallel, trickle-down taxes. Nobody ever gets away with taxing the "fat cats", the cost is always passed down because the power doesn't shift. I think that these taxes are always intended for the masses ( minus special interests ), pretending otherwise is hypocritical and just a tactic to increase class tension, and therefore excuse for more government control - to make things more "fair".

All taxes are a drag on the economy as a whole. As said above, they get distributed in one way or another, but they always get spread out. Artificial distribution of wealth by government and taxes never works. It just creates a bigger and bigger government with more and more apparatchiks.

It is hard to believe that this administration can be this oblivious to the realities of economics.
To impose a tax on banks in the midst of a recession is most confounding, not to mention destructive.
And Obama wants banks to make more loans??? Yup, this will really help in that regard.
This is a tax on the banks' customers, when confronted with this reality Gibbs stated that customers can simply switch banks...huhhh?

It appears that this administration is poised to become the most mendacious our nation has yet had to endure.
I also suspect that Obama does not give a rats ass about public sentiment, he is indeed a political torpedo!
Wow!

What this is is another foolish, amateurish knee-jerk reaction to an immediate problem. They counted on the tax on the "cadillac" health plans in their projections (even though it is a blatant violation of Obama's pledge on taxes). And then when it became necessary to bribe the unions by exempting only them from the tax, that created a shortfall. The solution? Voila! Tax the banks.

Hell, I'm surprised they don't want to tax the weather. Oh wait, they do!

PS I agree Obama is a political torpedo. In fact, this is a drive-by administration launched with the intent to create as much shift to the hard left in a short time before being exposed. Problem is, the exposure has come too soon.

I'll give Obama credit for one thing, and that is that he has put a spotlight on the Progressive agenda and Americans have awakened to it. Here's the big advantage as I see it: Obama and the Progressive Democrats running both houses, in their zeal to cram their Marxist/fascist ideology down our throats, will be replaced in 2010 and 2112 with Republicans. Because Americans are so much aware now, the Republicans will be made to toe the line from a fiscal conservative standpoint. If the Republicans don't get it right this time around, then we will have a true political revolution in 2016 with a very powerful third party running for the reigns of power. The Tea Party and Sarah Palin's influence is real. Progressives, scoff at your own peril.
