Obtaining fungus gnat free Soil?

What is the best way to obtain fungus gnat free soil? I always seem to pick them up and am really hoping to avoid them in my new plant cycle. Any tips?

BTW I mean obtaining new soil, that is free of eggs and larvae.

In my experience, and i have used many different soils, go with pro mix. The way they package it, the soil is sealed from any contaminates. I have never had an issue with any bugs in pro mix, ever. I stopped using fox farm and roots organics because of this.

Note: roots organics is my favorite soil, but have moved on to pro mix due to the gnat issues.

i also never have problems with them coming from promix. if you already have them though it doesnt really matter, they are pretty hard to get rid of depending on how much soil you run at once

How long will my plants be good in promix HP before needing to add fertilizer?

I dont get bugs in TGA base soil or super soil.

I agree with the promix, I have never had an issue with gnats. (I have used many different types of promix, while not the cheapest my favorite is their ultimate organic mix)

Not long, it has little additional nutrient unless you amend it. I like it because you can control what you feed. it's sort of like drain to waste hydro by hand watering. Obviously seedlings wont need much of anything for the first few weeks, and rooted clones for about a week.

If you are buying FoxFarm organic expect a lot of gnats. They are easy to deal with however, not a serious problem.

Google MycoGrow and apply it to your soil. The bacteria and fungus will keep them in check

Gnatrol (BT) diatomaceous earth, a few yellow sticky traps, you got 'er dicked.

This is what I want to try. Finally got the wifey to agree on the added expense! (She gets so pissed at me cause of how much my hobby costs!!!)

What do u think of it? Do u seriously never have to add any additional nutes to it?

Too bad there are no TGA vendors in my state, or on my side of the coast for that matter lol

Just lost about 15 seedlings due to those little worm varmits eating the stem. I've tried several different brands, one bag would have just a few and the next bag I grab will have tons of em. I now end up wetting the soil let it sit up for a bit then put in something good for the little maggots to eat then let it sit for a while. It cuts down on those pests big time.

Also if they are flying around I got a mixture of water/ molasses/ and some insecticide that I spray on em in air. They fall to the ground due to the Stickiness and die.

So I could get 2 bags of TGA soil for 90 shipped vs Pro mix

Really thinking about it since I am not too good when it comes to adding ferts. Any suggestions?
