$14.99 a bag for FFOF and Happy Frog where I live, nursery sells it $17.99 FFOF and 16.99 Happy Frog.
For seeds and clones I use a mix of FF light warrior and happy frog with perlite for seed, clone and veg.
flower I use 60/40 FFOF and Happy frog and add perlite, next run I am adding roots organic at 18.99 a bag for the ultimate mix.

you can always order soil online through amazon, if you have a prime membership, that will get you free second day shipping on all orders. really can't be free shipping on soil imo.
or like someone else said, make your own soil..
thehydrosource.com has free shipping on soil, but it's just added into the existing prices.

all soil bought online will be more expensive because of shipping weight

I would like to learn how to make my own soil and f*%# the $30 bags of soil and $35 for 20# of worm castings! Like I said, this hydro store is the only one around and they are getting rude. They have made plenty off of me selling hydro equipment. I didnt know better and they took advantage of my ignorance over the last 3yrs. I have spent well over $5k at this store in the first 2yrs and I am done with that... So much bullshit equipment taking up space and really it is useless. 2xflood table, 3x mega gardens(for veg), 2x clone machine that turns everything to brown mush... I am just complaining now!!! Did I mention a $400 chiller for my clone machine, I dont use any of it now. I am so so mad at them!

I sympathize with you, I recommend ordering as much stuff as possible at a local GARDEN store, don't go to a hydro store, they do just what happened to you, take advantage of people new to the hobby.

Then the first step is to get your worn bin up and running...and in the spirit of saving some cash, screw the worm farm 360 thingy. A couple Rubbermaid totes, bedding, worms and you're rocking.

If you can crank out high quality castings, then the rest is simple.

The worm farm is reasonable for me... I compost, but I dont use it in my soil mix. If I had a worm bin started, I would def use it.. I have a problem of my plants fading out after about week 5. Yellow all over and many dead leaves. It looks like N def but I can never prevent it with chem ferts. I have switched to a high N fert for bloom and rarely give it bloom fert. I would like to think worm castings will help them stay green all the way through. Thanks

IMHO you don't want the plants to stay healthy green through harvest. I like mine to start fading 2 weeks before harvest. Yellowing of leaves is natural in nature and will leave you with a smoother smoke.

I was getting yellow way too fast and all the fan leaves were gone. I am more likely to under fert than over... I am done guessing and decided to mix my own soil now. I purchased a worm bin and I feel this thread is old now! Thanks for showing me the way RIU!

I laugh when i see you guys spending $30 on a bag of soil, oh man my sides hurt. No disrespect but my secret weapon costs $1.65/bag and the results don't lie.

Also, coco coir is more sustainable than peat and won't effect your pH as much if you plan on recycling your mix.
You have convinced me to make my own soil now! Just buying peat & coco for a base would help tremendously right now! I have been looking at Hyroot's vegan mix...
So I get paid today and I REALLY want to do this and get away from bottle ferts. Will either of these work as a base(link)? If I use peat and coco 50/50 should I add perlite? I am ready to cook some soil and pop some TGA gear!
I feel like I should fix somebody's car for all the help you guys have given lol.

This company is selling a pre-made mix for super soil and they have an option to buy all the ingredients for one batch for $27+ free shipping. I was in the army for a while and they would say"It's like a sore dick, you can't beat it"! I am ready to pull the trigger and leave you guys alone for 30-60 days. Where it says MPN select "All the above" in the pay section on ebay.

There are so many different ways of doing this and nobody is doing EXACTLY the same. Its hard for a newb to wrap his head around it! I will have some trouble at first cause I have a "brown thumb". Its not what you think lol! google it

Well my truck does need some work...
Yea everyone will have their own opinion on what amendments to use. Aim for quality in your amendments and source what you can. Don't stress not being able to land any one amendment. You will continuosly be evolving your style and your soil mix will follow suit. Good luck, bro!! Need some coffee...

I built the 5.0 in my pic, it scares me at times lol! I got the biggest cam and heads that I could find. I would use a smaller cam next time, I feel the need to over do things lol.

I just wish that I could build some soil like my hotrods!

Trust me once you figure it out, you'll be off to the races. 3 cups of amendments per cubic foot of soil and you shouldn't overfert as long as you use good balance of NPK you should be fine.

I got nearly everything for my mix at Homedepot/ similar stores. EWC I got from the hydro store, but I make my own dirt really don't have room to make my own dirt and worm shit or I would do that too :)

I'm far from a pro, but my first batch of soil produced some beautiful plants for me using the 3 cups per cubic foot guideline.

Use the very best source of compost/worm poo you can find locally and plenty of rock dusts and you'll be fine. Don't sweat the other amendments too much. Use what you have or can easily track down. Like Mr Head mentioned 3'ish cups per cf is a good amount IMO. You can always brew teas or top dress with other stuff along the way. Kelp meal and crab shell meal are the two most important. Neem seed cake and alfalfa meal are great too. If you do go with neem cake I highly recommend ordering it from neem resource. Ahimsa brand, straight from India (the company that distributes it is located in Minnesota I believe). It's the one item that is worthy of the shipping charge.

props to you on your 5 liter build, I run an auto repair shop, i'm a Japanese car guy myself, but I did own a 67 mercury cougar, damn thing was rusting faster than I could restore it though, my project was to put a rb26dett engine from the older skyline in it, more HP, torque, MPG and it's lighter, fuel injected, and I can program it. FUN stuff right there. But I got distracted with my Nissan sr20ve project....200 linear (3 stage cam lift/duration) horsepower in a car that weighs a speck over a metric ton and still gets 29 mpg (as long as I stay off the high cams) Good stuff.
Gotta LOVE the V8 cam idle though, sounds like it's running on 6 cylinders, bubbling through water.
