Ocean Grown seeds and CMH

My intro may consist of a few post over the next day or so, running short on time. I'll try to keep this short and sweet.

This will be a grow journal for both my own records and anyone who may be curious about Ocean Grown seeds and/or ceramic metal halides, or simply for anyone who enjoys following them. It is only my second indoor grow so forgive me on any mistakes. All comments are welcome.

The space: 4'x9'10" grow area, inside of a 9'x9'10" room. Grow area is open to the rest of the room, no barriers or tents. Still deciding on going with a sealed room and running co2 or not.

Lighting: As I mentioned I will be running cmh's. My lights will come from growers choice, either the 315w or the 630w double ended. Both would be with the 3000k red enhanced bulbs that they give as one of their options.
I currently am running one 630w de cmh that I got a few weeks ago. I'm waiting on my par meter to arrive tomorrow to take some readings on this light so I can make my decision on either 315s or 630s. So far I'm pretty happy with the light. My only current plant(not an ocean grown) at week 4 from breaking the soil has doubled in size the past week, just by switching it from 250w of blurple to the cmh.

- All will be in Fox Farm soil, starting in 1 gallon pots, transferred to 3 gal.

Genetics:
12- Alien Rift, 12- Malibu Pie. Both from seed and are not feminized seeds.

The other strain(s) I will be running will be 7 reg seeds of a bit of mystery genes. I'm basically just hoping to get lucky and get a keeper out of them. My first grow, I grew around 22 plants of these same genetics. A few phenos/strains were basically garbage. Many were nice and 2 or 3 were absolutely amazing. So dense that it was a bit of a task to even break the bud up, rock hard, both purpled out heavily, raunchy skunk smell, and everyone who tried came back starting each sentence with "Dude, that purple shit", and went on to tell me how fire it was.
The story for these mystery genes is someone I know who was working on an outdoor grow with an "intern"(we'll call him) was running around 5 different strains, I have them written down somewhere which strains, can't remember them all off the top of my head. Well hidden in the middle of the patch was a male bubblisious that the intern missed, I believe it came from Nirvana, like I said I have it written down if anyone wants to know exactly. So yes it pollinated the shit out of everything, I have more seeds of those than I know what to do with but he mixed them all together so I don't know which is which. A couple strains I know for sure that were surrounding females was bubbilicious and blueberry. I want to say grand daddy purp and lemon skunk as well but don't quote me on that.
These phenos, I'm labeling BX, for "bubbilicious cross".

I have one single BX at the moment, one month from breaking soil today.
My Alien Rift have germed a bit quicker than the rest, 8 AR's just hit soil this evening. The rest of the AR have begun sprouting their tap root.
My Malibu Pie are barely poking out there taps but non the less, 11 out of 12 have begun.
Something like 3 out of 6 of the BX have also begun to sprout.

Well anyway I know there's still much more i could go on about but I'm going to wrap it up for now. I hope every one enjoys :peace:

One last thing! Forgive me, my grow room is a mess, I didn't get a chance to clean it this last weekend.

Enjoy:eyesmoke:

Also I should mention that my plant in the picture looks droopy because it had just got a spray down with neem oil for a preventative. A bit ugly at the moment too because I just super cropped both tops and tried tucking a couple branches to get the two lowest ones to catch up.

Other than that it has been pure green perky-ness ever since being put under that 630

Currently 79f and 60% rh at the top of the plant. Light is 30 inches above the plant i believe.

lookin good

might be a better fit in the Indoor Growing section (HIDs) than in the LED board

My bad, I didn't realise cmh was considered hid, was thinking "Other lighting" actually kind of silly now thinking about it lol I've been searching cmh on the led and other section. No wonder I haven't come across too much LMAO

I'll work on getting it transferred over to hid and get it deleted off this one. Should have it done sometime tomorrow. Off to bed, gotta be up for work at 4am.

Thanks for pointing that out though

Oh okay, yeah I just checked it out closer. I didn't scroll down far enough. Always just thought I had to choose one of the 3 options at the top. Appreciate the heads up

Good luck man I just started (3) Dark Plasma plants myself a few days ago. I have a stash of just Ocean Grown stuff. Have some Rift and Malibu Pie to get through myself. Curious to see how the 630 DE cmh works for you I was eyeballing these myself not that long ago and curious how they compare to my 600 watt HPS and Blue MH

One thing I will say is it runs cooler than my se 600 hps. I have not hung the hps up for a side by side comparison on brightness but my par meter will be arriving today so I'll deffinitely be playing with all my lights to see what kind of intensities I'm getting

Just for the simple fact that I'm working with like 7'2" ceilings, I'm 95% sure I'll be going with the 315s. Better spread and the heat will be more evenly distributed so I will be able to grow my plants a bit taller.
At this point I'm kind of thinking I want to aim for a canopy about 4 ft off the ground by the end, so about 3 ft of growth plus the 3 gal pots. Probably no more than that since I have lower ceilings. So I will be dealing with relatively short veg time, also because I have a higher number of plants too.
I will have my hands for keeping my month old short while the ocean grown catch up. Always of the option of turning it into a mother as well. We'll see

So you're referring then to (2) 315's in place of each 630w DE CMH correct? And are you referring to the SE or DE 315's?

Thanks just a subject of much interest to me so cool to see someone else testing stuff I have wanted to but not been able to yet.

As for the 315 CMH (SE) I am of the opinion there's a max on canopy size before it loses it's effective penetration. That was my only gripe with mine but I loved the spectrum. Been waiting forever for Hortilux to release the 600 watt Ceramic HPS hopefully soon now anxious to test that out and for me and the current setup it's just the cost of the bulb so relatively cheap to try something new.

Looking forward to your findings
:peace:
