if it where me, i would super crop the top and get them into flower. Yield is always dependent on strain, environment, growing skills, lighting. I get a 1/4Lb off some strains, Yet if I get 2 zips off my og I'm stoked.

how long u veg for chuck to get 2zips a plant
I veg in a 3 gal for about 10 -15 days, then into a 5 gal until there about 3-4 ft tall, I run a perpetual, so i always have something in veg and flower while rotating whenever one finishes, that's why supercropping works for me, I start them early and it allows the plant to veg a little longer and thicken up the stems.

There is a recommended 2 week recovery on super cropping sites before switching to flowering. How your friend missed the fact that the lights were too high is beyond me. I check my stuff everyday - sometimes twice - and this is growing bud 101 stuff. If it were me I guess I would make sure I had some good replacement rooted clones and I would just get the flowering out of the way. The yield will be disappointing from what you were expecting. Live and learn.

there is 2 weeks of solid growth before buds start showing, plenty of time for a plant to recover.
I recommended it for him as his plants are gonna be 9 ft tall if he doesn't do something soon.

Tie the tops down to the sides of the pots. Get the tops lower than other parts of the plants and they will bush out like crazy. If you do a tie down the day you put them into flower there will be pretty much no upwards stretch for the first week of 12/12. Look into LST that is what the technique is called.

Another good trick is to use pipe cleaners with weights attached to weigh down the tops - bend them over, attach the weight, increase weight size as the plant adapts.

I truly see no point in supercropping or topping personally. Full canopy control can be achieved by training and tying the plant - plus yield has to be greater as you haven't removed any of the plant.
