ok so last night at three in the morning (high) i decided i wanted to try an make my first cannabutter with a crockpot. I grouned up a quarter and keif from the grinder and used a stick of butter plus a little more to make up for lost material. I added water, melted the butter, and added the weed . I stirred it up and called it a night. The crockpot was on low by the way. I woke up today at 1 in the afternoon and checked the crockpot. My buddy had stirred it 3 times in the middle of the night but when i checked today it was almost at a boil in the crockpot. I asked if it was boiling when he stirred it and he said no. So we strained it into a container an put it in the fridge.

MY question is since it was at a boil do you think i lost potency at all? it wasnt a rolling boil but there was huge bubbles coming up ever second or so.

Was there any water left in it when your poured it out? If so, it was probably just steam escaping since the butter floats on top of the water. I think you're probably good if the crock pot was on the low setting

no it doesn't matter if it was boiling, water cannot get hotter than 212 F unless it's in a presssure cooker so you're always safe. That's why the crockpot method is best rather than a frying pan and oil for example.

learn something new everyday.. thanks frmrboi!! so is cannabutter safe as far as losing potency for as long as you want it to simmer in a crockpot? what about the temperature of the butter does that get too high?

I don't know about the length but I would think the longer the more the thc would degrade, I try to simmer for just a few hours. The butter can't overheat as long as there's water in the pot if it boils dry then it might if you left it on high.
