oil/water emulsion please help!

I'm a moron please help! I was attempting to clean my extract by redissolving it in alcohol and running it through a syringe filter, then when I heated up the alcohol in a hot water bath the shot glass I had the redissolved extract and alcohol into broke. Now I have a cup filled with an alcohol oil/water emulsion that is milky and will not separate. My guess is that the alcohol hydrogen bonded with the water and the oil is attached which would make it stable enough to resist the cooling and heating I have already performed. I have already cooled it in the fridge overnight, I have heated it in the microwave until it was roughly 130°F, I have froze it but nothing has worked. I'm saving boiling until last resort cause it will decarb the oil. How should I go about breaking the emulsion and getting the oil and alcohol/water to separate?

your making oil or hash right ? if so as long as your using an alcohol that is safe for drinking you will be fine after it boils off or evaporates. if its rubing alcohol then your fucked .

Without boiling it there aren't many options that don't require a lot of patience. Evaporation under vacuum would be quickest, at room temp or on a warm mat next fastest, and open in a self-defrosting freezer causing sublimation if you don't mind waiting, maybe one to two weeks if you can get a thin sheet frozen. City Market/Kroger stores sell stainless 2oz condiment cups, perfect for warming small amounts in, and won't break. I think they are about 4/$2.

Yup its rubbing alcohol. Why is it different from ethanol here? Why am I fucked?

Oh jeez... That's what I feared. I'm hoping that it will break the emulsion and separate under boiling temp, ~180-190°F but if it doesn't work I'll just boil it away I guess. Its not enough for me to put that much effort and patience into, although its fun to experiment. Thx for the SS cup tip! I didn't know they had them around.

shit man i just read post 4.

NEVER use denatured or isopropyl alcohol, it is POISONED to prevent hobos from drinking it.

clean your hash with VODKA, or white lightning, nothing else.

Hmm could I salt it out? Here is a wiki article on IPA
"It is insoluble in salt solutions. Unlike ethanol or methanol, isopropyl alcohol can be separated from aqueous solutions by adding a salt such as sodium chloride, sodium sulfate, or any of several other inorganic salts, since the alcohol is much less soluble in saline solutions than in salt-free water. The process is colloquially called salting out, and causes concentrated isopropyl alcohol to separate into a distinct layer."
Getting rid of the remaining salt would be a concern but I think I could remove it. I'm probably just going to boil it off but I still want to explore my options here. I might try salting out as a test on a very small amount before I continue with anything.

the toxins added to rubbing alcohol to render it poisonous are notoriously difficult to remove, BY DESIGN.

even re-distillation doesnt remove that shit reliably.

i wouldnt trust any wiki-method to remove the poisons from my dope.

throw that mess out and chalk it up to a lesson learned.

Nothing wrong with iso....denatured/rubbing alcohol is not the same thing
Iso can be salted out to 97-98%

Just sayin

Denatured alcohol or methylated spirits is ethanol that has additives to make it poisonous, extremely bad tasting, foul smelling or nauseating, to discourage recreational consumption. In some cases it is also dyed.

Denatured alcohol is used as a solvent and as fuel for spirit burners and camping stoves. Because of the diversity of industrial uses for denatured alcohol, hundreds of additives and denaturing methods have been used. The main additive has traditionally been 10% methanol, giving rise to the term "methylated spirits". Other typical additives include isopropyl alcohol, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, and denatonium.

In some cases iso is added to denature because you can't drink it....chloroform has also been used to extract, you don't wanna drink it either...denatured alcohol is not isopropanol.....at all
The iso evaps away...no poisons unless using denatured alcohol....I understand how the confusion could arise
Just think what does denatured mean..what does alcohol mean.iso is a type if alcohol

Please no misinfo in this section......take it elsewhere or keep it to yourself

that snake aint poisonous"
"im ok to drive"
"my dog dont bite"
"this gun aint loaded"

also, "just sayin"

isopropyl IS denatured alcohol.

deliberately poisoned, for external use only.

if you want to smoke hash full of poisons, feel free just dont try to convince others to join you.

is vodka that expensive or are you just that dumb?
Sir you are wrong. Isopropyl alcohol is not denatured alcohol. Denatured alcohol is methylated ethanol, not isopropyl. I like wiki because its quick and easy, its also very highly reliable for scientific based information.

Notice that it listed isopropyl as an additive. Denatured alcohol and isopropyl alcohol are absolutely not the same.

for the purposes of this discussion the two closely related substances ARE IDENTICAL.

Not at all...iso purges out....oxygen is deadly as well:)
Fucking morons today
